Software update: Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Beginning March 5, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will have a software update to Android version 4.4.2 (KitKat)/ Baseband N900TUVUCNB4 via Wi-Fi or Kies. This update includes the KitKat update and user experience improvements.

Software version

Check the software version

To check the current software version, follow these steps:


  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the More tab.
  4. Under System manager, tap About device.
  5. The software version is located in the Baseband field.
  6. Read the version on the phone, and check it below:

If the update fails, contact customer care.

Other versions

Your phone has non-T-Mobile software, and it is unsupported. The manufacturer and T-Mobile cannot update your software.

Requirements to update

To be able to update to the current software version, the below requirements must be met:

  • 50% or higher battery life
  • Wi-Fi connection
  • 510 MB available memory (File size of update: 507 MB)

Update automatically Over-The-Air (OTA)

This software update will not be pushed to your phone. Between March 5 and April 11 you will be able to request the update. Your phone will notify you when it is ready to update. If your phone has not received a message, see Software update: Download below.


After receiving the OTA notification, follow these steps:

  1. Fom the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap the More tab.
  3. Tap About device.
  4. Tap Software update.
  5. Tap Ok to check for the update.

You can download and install the software update:

From the phone

From a computer



Update software from the phone

To check for updates and download the update from the Samsung servers, follow these steps:

Note: You must be connected to Wi-Fi prior to completing the update.


  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the More tab.
  4. Under System manager, tap About device.
  5. Tap Software update.
  6. Tap Ok to start the device check for updates.
  7. Tap Ok to begin the update.



Update software from a computer

To download updates for your phone and install them using a computer, follow these steps:


Installing Kies

  1. Download the most recent version of Kies by visiting (Select the SAMSUNG Kies version compatible with the PC)
  2. Double click the Kies file. The program will self extract, no action is required
  3. Select the desired Language and Location, then click Next.
  4. Read the license agreement, check the box for "I accept..." and click Next.
  5. Kies will begin the installation. No action is required.
  6. When the process is complete, click Finish.


Prepare the Samsung Galaxy Note 3

  1. From the home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tab the More tab.
  4. Tap Developer options, if available. If not available, skip to step 8.
  5. Tap Ok
  6. Tap USB Debugging
  7. Tap the Home key to exit the settings menu.
  8. Insert the USB data cable into the phone and then into an available port on the computer.
  9. Select Media device(MTP) at the phone prompt. The PC should recognize several devices and begin installation. This is normal and may take a few minutes. Unplug the data cable when completed.


Update the Samsung Galaxy Note 3

  1. Open the Samsung Kies application.
  2. Allow the application to detect the device and display an available update notification.
  3. Follow the on screen prompts to complete the update.
        Note: Using Samsung Kies to update the device software is support by Samsung. If there are any questions about the update process via Kies, escalate to Samsung for further assistance.
