Backlight

Brightness

To make the screen backlight brighter or darker, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Display.
  4. Tap Brightness.
  5. If necessary, clear the Adapt to lighting conditions check box.
  6. Touch the Brightness slider and slide left or right to adjust the screen brightness.
  7. Tap OK.

 

 

Timeout

To change the time before the backlight times out, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Display.
  4. Tap Sleep.
  5. Select the desired time interval.

Home screen

Add widget or shortcut

To add a widget or shortcut to the Home screen, follow these steps:

 

  1. On any Home screen, touch and hold a vacant area on the screen.
  2. Select one of the following:
    • WIDGETS
    • APPS
  3. Navigate to and select the widget or application you want to add.
  4. If necessary, touch the circles surrounding the widget and slide to adjust the widget size.
  5. Touch and hold the widget or application, and then slide your finger to the desired location.
  6. Release your finger to set.

 

 

Delete widget or shortcut

To delete a widget or shortcut from the Home screen, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to the Home screen that contains a widget or shortcut you want to delete.
  2. Touch and hold the widget or shortcut, and then slide your finger (and the icon) over the Trash can icon.
  3. Release your finger from the screen.

 

 

Home screen wallpaper

To change the Home screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. On any Home screen, touch and hold a vacant area of the screen.
  2. Tap WALLPAPERS.
  3. Choose one of the following options:
    • Use an Xperia wallpaper
      1. Touch the row of previews and slide left to browse wallpaper options.
      2. Select the wallpaper you want to use.
    • Use a custom wallpaper
      1. Tap Album.
      2. Navigate to and select the picture you want to use.
      3. Touch and hold on the crop box and then slide your finger to move it.
      4. Touch an edge of the crop box, and then slide your finger to adjust the size.
      5. Tap Crop.
    • Use a Live wallpaper.
      1. Tap Live Wallpapers.
      2. Select a wallpaper to preview.
      3. Tap Set wallpaper.

 

 

Lock screen wallpaper

To change the lock screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Display.
  4. Scroll down to 'PERSONALIZATION,' and then tap Lock screen.
  5. Tap Wallpaper.
  6. Choose from one of the following:
    • Use a custom wallpaper
      1. Tap Album
      2. Navigate to and select the image you want to use.
      3. Touch and hold on the crop box and then slide your finger to move it.
      4. Touch an edge of the crop box, and then slide your finger to adjust the size.
      5. Tap Crop.
    • Use an Xperia wallpaper
      1. Tap Xperia wallpapers.
      2. Select the wallpaper you want to use.
      3. Tap Set wallpaper.

Keyboard

Change default keyboard

The Sony Xperia Z keyboard is set by default to the International keyboard - Xperia keyboard. We're sorry, but changing the default keyboard is not available on this device.

 

 

Enter symbols & numbers

To enter symbols and numbers with the keyboard, follow these steps:

 

To enter many numbers

    1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the 12!? key.
    2. Tap the number keys you want to use.
    3. Tap the Abc key to return to the alphabet keyboard.


To enter one or a few numbers

    1. From the alphabet keyboard, touch and hold the letter key that contains the number you want to use.
    2. Release your finger. The number assigned to the key will appear in the text field..


To enter many symbols

    1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the 12!? key.
    2. Tap the symbol key(s) you want to use.
    3. Tap the +=$ key for more symbols.
    4. Tap the Abc key to return to the alphabet keyboard.

 

To enter one or a few symbols

    1. From the alphabet keyboard, touch and hold on the key containing the desired symbol.
    2. Release your finger. The symbol assigned to the key will appear in the text field.

 

 

Text entry mode

To change the text entry or predictive text mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap Keyboard settings.
  3. Tap Text input settings.
  4. If necessary, select one of the following options to edit:
    • My words
    • Word suggestions
  5. Select or clear the check boxes for the following options:
    • Automatic space
    • Quick fixes
    • Gesture input
    • Space between gestures

 

 

Turn on/off haptic feedback

To turn on or turn off haptic feedback vibration, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap Keyboard settings.
  3. Tap Sound and vibration.
  4. Select or clear the Vibration on keypress check box.
