Insert/remove battery

The Sony Xperia Z is equipped with an internal battery. We're sorry, but inserting and removing the battery is not available on this device.

 

If you cannot access the menus because the device is frozen or will not power on, perform the following:

 

  1. Press and hold the Power and Volume Up keys.
  2. Wait for the device to vibrate three times (about 10 seconds).
    • Note: The device will vibrate once, then a few seconds later it will vibrate three times.
  3. Release the keys.
  4. Press the power key to turn the device back on.

Battery life

Battery saving mode

To turn on, turn off, or use battery life saving features on the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Power management.
  4. Tap the STAMINA mode switch to turn on or turn off.
  5. Tap the Low battery mode switch to turn on or turn off.
  6. Tap the Location-based Wi-Fi switch to turn on or turn off.

 

 

Battery saving mode settings

To change settings for the battery life saving feature, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Power management.
  4. Choose from the following options:
    • Edit STAMINA mode
      1. Tap STAMINA mode.
      2. Tap the STAMINA mode switch to turn on.
      3. Tap Activation.
      4. Touch the Battery level slider and adjust the % at which you want STAMINA mode to become active.
      5. Tap OK.
      6. If necessary, under 'APPS ACTIVE IN STANDBY,' add or remove applications to/from the list.
    • Edit Low battery mode
      1. Tap Low battery mode.
      2. Tap the Low battery mode switch to turn on.
      3. Edit the following settings as necessary:
        • Screen brightness
        • Screen timeout
      4. Select or clear the following options:
        • Vibrate on touch off
        • Wi-Fi off
        • GPS off
        • Bluetooth off
        • Auto-sync off
        • Mobile data off

 

 

Tips to save battery life

To save and extend battery life, follow these steps:

 

Lower screen brightness and timeout duration

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Display.
  4. Tap Brightness.
  5. If necessary, clear the Adapt to lighting conditions check box.
  6. Touch the Brightness slider and slide left to lower the screen brightness.
  7. Tap OK.
  8. Tap Sleep.
  9. Tap 15 seconds.


Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Notification bar and slide down.
  2. Tap the Wi-Fi icon to turn off Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap the Bluetooth icon to turn off Bluetooth.
  4. Tap the Location icon to turn off GPS.
  5. Tap the Settings icon in the upper-right corner.
  6. Under 'WIRELESS & NETWORKS,' tap More.
  7. Tap Tethering and Mobile HotSpot.
  8. Clear the Mobile HotSpot check box to turn off.

 

Reduce application auto-sync settings

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Under 'ACCOUNTS,' select the type of account you want to edit.
  4. If necessary, select your account name.
  5. Clear as many check boxes as possible to reduce options set for automatic sync.

 

Turn off background data

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Under 'WIRELESS & NETWORKS,' tap Data usage.
  4. Tap the Menu icon in the upper-right corner.
  5. Select the Restrict background data check box.

 

Minimize use of third party applications

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Apps.
  4. If necessary, touch the screen and slide right to view the Downloaded screen.
  5. Select the desired application
  6. Select one of the following options:
    • Disable
    • Uninstall
  7. Tap OK.


Toggle from 4G to WCDMA

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Under 'WIRELESS & NETWORKS,' tap More.
  4. Scroll down to and tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Network Mode.
  6. Tap WCDMA.

 

Update to the latest software

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down to 'SYSTEM,' and then tap About phone.
  4. Tap Software update.
  5. Follow any additional prompts.


Set device to sleep when unused

  • Press and then quickly release the Power key to set the screen to sleep mode.
  • To activate the screen again, press and then quickly release the Power key.
