    Manage memory

    To manage the internal memory, follow the steps in Memory management: BlackBerry including

     

    • Restarting your device regularly.
    • Closing unneeded applications.
    • Monitoring and cleaning your memory regularly.

     

     

    Task manager

    A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press and hold the ALT key + Escape key. A list of all open applications will appear on the screen.
    2. Continue to hold the ALT key, then release the Escape key.
    3. Scroll to the application that you want to close.
    4. Release the ALT key. The application opens.
    5. Press the Escape key to close the application.
      Note: Always press the Escape key to exit applications to ensure they close properly.

     

     

    View free memory

    To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

     

    Device software 5.0 and earlier

    1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, open Options.
    2. Select Status.
    3. The File Free field shows the approximate amount of available flash memory available for data.

     

    Device software 6.0 and later

    1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, tap All, then open Options.
    2. Select Device.
    3. Select Device and Status Information.
    4. The File Free field shows the approximate amount of available flash memory available for data.

    SD card

    Format SD card

    Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

     

    To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

     

    1. On the Home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.
    2. Click Device.
    3. Click Storage.
    4. Press the Menu key.
    5. Click Format.
    6. Complete the instructions on the screen.

     

     

     

    Insert / remove SD card

    To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

     

    Insert

     

    1. Press and hold the End/Power key to turn the phone off.
    2. Lift then remove the back cover from your phone.

    3. Remove the battery.
    4. Slide the memory card into the memory card holder with the golden contacts facing down.

    5. Re-insert the battery.

    6. Replace the back cover by inserting the tabs first and pressing down.

     

     

    Remove

     

    1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
    2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
    3. Scroll to and tap Device.
    4. Scroll to and tap Storage.
    5. Press the Menu key.
    6. Select Safely Remove Media Card.
    7. Press and hold the End/Power key to turn the phone off.
    8. Lift then remove the back cover from your phone.

    10. Slide the memory card out of the memory card holder.

    Open or delete files using a computer

    To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:


    Note: These steps and screenshots are correct for a Windows computer. The procedure for a Mac OSX computer is similar, but screen windows and options may differ.

     

     

    1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your phone and the large end of the cable to your computer.
    2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer.

    3. Click Files.
    4. If necessary, click Get Started.

    5. The BlackBerry Desktop Software window now shows the directory hierarchy on your phone.
    6. Click the small triangles to navigate to the internal phone (device) memory or the memory (media) card and then to the desired folder.

    7. Right-click a phone file in the BlackBerry Desktop Software window and click one of the following options:
      • Cut
      • Copy
      • Open
      • Delete
      • Rename

    Open or delete files using the device

    To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

     

    Method 1

    1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
    2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Media icon.
    3. Select from the following options:
      • Music
      • Pictures
      • Videos
      • Podcasts
    4. Navigate to the file you want.
    5. To delete: tap and hold on the file and then choose Delete twice.

     

     

    Method 2

    1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
    2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Applications icon.
    3. Tap the Files icon.
    4. Tap File Folders.
    5. Tap Media Card.
    6. Navigate to the desired files.
    7. To delete: tap and hold on the file and then choose Delete twice.

     

     

    Set default memory storage

    By default, the device stores data on the  internal storage. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:


    Pictures

     

    1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
    2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Camera icon.
    3. Press the Menu key.
    4. Scroll to and tap Options.
    5. Scroll to and tap the Store Pictures drop-down menu.
    6. Tap On Device or On Media Card.
    7. Press the Menu key.
    8. Tap Save.

     

     

    Videos

     

    1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
    2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Media icon.
    3. Tap the Video Camera icon.
    4. Press the Menu key.
    5. Tap Options.
    6. Scroll to and tap the Store Videos drop-down menu.
    7. Tap On Device or On Media Card.
    8. Press the Menu key.
    9. Tap Save.

     

     

    Transfer files between computer & SD card

    To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:


    Note: You will need to install BlackBerry Desktop Software.

    Note: These steps and screenshots are correct for a Windows computer. The procedure for a Mac OSX computer is similar, but screen windows and options may differ.

     

     

    1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your phone and the large end of the cable to your computer.

    5. View the following information under Media Card Storage:
      • Total Space
      • Free Space
