Internal memory (RAM)

Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  • If the device is slow, remove the widgets from Home screens (especially ones that update with information orhave animation).
  • If you are using live wallpaper and the device is slow, turn off the live wallpaper.
  • Remove all unused Home screens:
    • Pinch the Home screen.
    • On the grid of Home screens, drag unused screens to the trash.

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Applications.
  2. Scroll to and tap Task Manager.
  3. Tap the Active applications tab.
  4. Scroll to the desired application.
  5. Tap Exit.

 

 

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu menu.jpg key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Storage.
  4. View Available space for the SD card, for USB storage, and for Device memory.

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

Clear storage regularly

Clear the storage at least once a week:

Note: Refer to your user manual for instructions.

 

  • Check the available internal device storage. It must be over 25 MB for all versions up to Android 3.1 or over 150 MB for Android 4.0+.
    Note: If it is less, the Android system cannot work properly. You must clear more storage and delete more apps using the following tips.
  • Delete unnecessary text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS).
  • Transfer pictures and media to a computer, and remove it from the phone memory.
  • Clear the browser cache, cookies, or history.
  • Clear Facebook app cache.
  • Manage applications. See section below.
  • Delete the call logs.

 

 

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu menu.jpg key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Storage.
  4. View Available space for the SD card, for USB storage, and for Device memory.

SD card

Format SD card

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up data on the storage or SD card, if desired.
  2. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  3. From the Notification bar, select Connect USB storage.

  4. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  5. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  6. Right-click the removable disk.
  7. Click Format.

  8. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  9. Click Start.
  10. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

Insert

 

  1. Remove the back cover by pulling apart at the notch located on the bottom edge of the phone.
  2. Gently press the memory card into the slot, as shown.

  3. Replace the back cover. The SD card will be mounted automatically.

 

Remove

Important: The memory card must be correctly unmounted for safe removal.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu menu.jpg key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Tap Unmount SD card.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Remove the back cover by pulling apart at the notch located on the bottom edge of the phone.
  7. Slide the memory card completely out of the memory card slot.
  8. Replace the back cover.

 

 

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and network.
  4. Tap USB utilities.
  5. Tap Connect storage to PC.
  6. Connect the small end of the USB cable to your phone and the large end to the computer’s USB port.
  7. Drag down the Notification bar and tap Connect USB storage.
  8. On the computer, select Open folder to view files in the Removable Disk window and then tap OK.
  9. Locate the file and press the Delete key on your keyboard.

 

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

Music files

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Applications.
  2. Scroll to and tap Music.
  3. Tap the All tab.
  4. Scroll to and touch and hold the desired song file.
  5. Tap Delete.
  6. Tap OK.

 

Photo and video files

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Applications.
  2. Scroll to and tap Gallery.
  3. Tap Camera.
  4. Scroll to and touch and hold the desired file.
  5. Tap Delete.
  6. Tap Confirm deletions.

OR

  1. Navigate to the folder with the file(s) you want to delete.
  2. Tap the Menu menu.jpg key.
  3. Tap to select each file you want to delete.
  4. Tap Delete.
  5. Tap Confirm deletions.

 

 

Set default memory storage

By default, the device stores data on the [SD card or internal storage]. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, tap Application.
  2. Tap Camera.
  3. Tap the Settings icon.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap one of the following options: 
    • Phone
    • Memory card

 

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:


  1. Press the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and network.
  4. Tap USB utilities.
  5. Tap Connect storage to PC.
  6. Connect the small end of the USB cable to your phone and the large end to the computer’s USB port.
  7. Drag down the notification bar and tap Connect USB storage.
  8. On the computer, select Open folder to view files in the Removable Disk window and then tap OK.
  9. Locate the file and copy/paste the file to your memory card.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the internal storage and SD card, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, tap Applications.
  2. Tap Files.
  3. Tap the desired folder.
  4. Tap the Menu menu.jpg key.
  5. Tap More.
  6. Tap Move.
  7. Tap to select the check box next to each file you want to move.
  8. You can also tap to select the Select all check box to move all files in the folder.
  9. Tap Move.
  10. Tap the desired folder.
  11. Tap Move here.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu menu.jpg key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Under SD card, view the Available space.
