Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

Restart device regularly

Note: You should restart your phone at least once per day.

  1. Press and hold the Power key until the 3 appears on the screen. Release the Power key.
  2. Tap Restart.


Manage applications
Note
: Manage your applications to keep your device running smoothly.

  • Research and monitor new applications that you install
    • Read BlackBerry World application reviews before installing. Not all applications run smoothly on phones. Read customer reviews before downloading an application to see if it has a history of not working properly.
    • If your device starts having problems after installing an application, consider uninstalling the application (See below: 'Uninstall third-party applications.'

  • Keep applications updated
    1. Navigate to Home screen 1 and tap BlackBerry World.
    2. Tap the Menu icon at bottom-left and then tap My World.
    3. Tap My Apps & Games.
    4. If necessary, tap Apps & Games and then tap Updates from the drop-down list.
    5. Choose one of the following options:

      • Next to each desired application, tap the Update update icon.jpg icon.
      • At the bottom of the screen, tap the larger Update all update icon.jpg icon.

 

  • Uninstall third-party applications (See 'Uninstall App')

  • Clear application cache and data
    Note: To clear app cache or data, if available, navigate the Settings menu for each application to access any available settings.

  • Clear recent applications
    1. From any screen, touch the bottom of the screen and drag up to arrive at the Default Home screen.
    2. At the bottom-right corner of each recent application thumbnail, tap the x icon.

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to Home screen 1 and tap BlackBerry World.
  2. Tap the Menu icon at bottom-left and then tap My World.
  3. Tap My Apps & Games.
  4. Tap Apps & Games again and then tap Downloaded.
  5. Touch and hold on the desired application.
  6. To close the application, tap the Trash can icon and then tap Uninstall. The app is now listed in the Available tab.

 

 

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Swipe up and tap Storage and Access.
  4. Swipe up and tap Device storage details.
  5. View the Free storage space value.

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

Clear storage regularly

Note: Clear storage at least once per week.

    • Delete unnecessary text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS).
    • Transfer pictures and media to a computer, and remove it from the phone memory.
    • Clear the browser cache, cookies, or history.
    • Clear Facebook app cache.
    • Manage applications. See section below.
    • Delete the call logs.

Adjust memory storage settings
Follow these tips to prevent your ROM storage from quickly filling up.

  • Increase synchronization time interval:
    1. Navigate to Home screen 3 and then tap Setup.
    2. Tap Accounts.
    3. Tap the desired account.
    4. Tap the category (for example, Contacts).
    5. Swipe up on the screen. Tap the Sync interval field.
    6. Tap the desired setting (the larger the time value, the less ROM that is used).

Manage applications
Monitor new applications that you install

  • If your device starts having problems after installing an application, consider uninstalling the application.
  • Consider uninstalling apps using large amounts of ROM.
    1. Navigate to Home screen 1 and tap BlackBerry World.
    2. Tap the Menu icon at bottom-left and then tap My World.
    3. Tap My Apps & Games.
    4. Tap the Downloaded tab or else tap My Apps & Games and then tap Downloaded.
    5. Tap the desired application to check its size. View the File size value.
    6. Tap the Back < icon.
    7. Touch and hold on the desired application to be uninstalled. To uninstall the application, tap the Trash can icon and then tap Uninstall. The app is now listed in the Available tab.
      Note: To permanently delete the application, tap Delete.

 

 

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Swipe up and tap Storage and Access.
  4. Swipe up and tap Device storage details.
  5. View the Free storage space value.

SD card

Format SD card

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up all desired Media Card files to your computer.
  2. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Swipe up and tap Storage and Access.
  5. Swipe up and tap Format Media Card. Follow any additional prompts.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the back cover by pressing down on the cover. Slide the cover down.

  2. Slide the Media Card (SD Card) into place as shown and with the gold contacts facing down.

  3. Replace the back cover by pressing it flush against the device. Slide up and into place.

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, download BlackBerry Link (See 'Drivers for Computers).
  2. Connect your device to the USB cable and connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
  3. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
  4. Click your device name blackberry link Blackberry icon.jpg at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Navigate to the desired files.
  6. To delete files, click on the file, right-click, and then click Delete.

 

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to Home screen 3 and tap File Manager.
  2. Tap the Menu key at bottom-left and then tap Media Card (SD card).
  3. Navigate to the desired SD card files or folders.
  4. To delete files, tap the Menu icon at bottom-right.
  5. Tap Select.
  6. Tap the desired folder(s) or file(s) to be deleted to highlight the items.
  7. Tap the Trash can icon and then tap Delete.

 

 

Set default memory storage

By default, the device stores data on either the SD card or internal storage (depending on the app). To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

BlackBerry World (memory card is the default storage)

  1. Navigate to Home screen 1 and tap Blackberry World.
  2. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap General.
  5. Choose the desired setting:

    • Set SD card as default storage
    • Tap the Save to Memory Card Switch to On. The Switch moves right and fills with color.

    • Set internal storage  as default storage
    • Tap the Save to Memory Card Switch to Off. The Switch moves left and turns grey.

 

Camera (internal memory is the default storage)

  1. Navigate to Home screen 3 and tap Camera.
  2. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Choose the desired setting:

    • Set SD card as default storage
    • Tap the Save on Media Card Switch to On. The Switch moves right and fills with color.

    • Set internal storage as default storage
    • Tap the Save on Media Card Switch to Off. The Switch moves left and turns grey.

 

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:


  1. If necessary, download BlackBerry Link (See 'Drivers for Computers).
  2. Connect your device to the USB cable and connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
  3. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
  4. Click the my device blackberry link Blackberry icon.jpg tab.
  5. Click the Settings settings icon.jpg icon.
  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the window. Next to 'Pictures,' click the link. This opens the storage location on your computer where your device pictures are backed up to.
  7. Drag and drop the desired pictures inside the folder. This enables you to transfer the files inside BlackBerry Link. 

    Click the Computer blackbery link computer icon.jpg tab. The pictures you just added should be visible as thumbnails.


  8. Drag and drop the pictures over the your device blackberry link Blackberry icon.jpg tab. The files should automatically save to the SD card.

    Note: To check if the files saved to your SD card, from you device, navigate to Home screen 3 and tap File Manager. Tap the Menu icon at bottom-left and then tap Media card. Tap the Photos folder. The pictures should be stored inside the folder.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the internal storage and SD card, follow these steps:


Internal storage to SD card

  1. Navigate to Home screen 3 and tap File Manager.
  2. Tap the Menu key at bottom-left and then tap Device.
  3. Navigate to the desired internal storage files or folders.
  4. Tap the Menu icon at bottom-right and then tap Select.
  5. Tap each desired folder or file to select.
  6. Tap the Move move icon.jpg icon.
    Note: To the Copy copy icon.jpg icon to duplicate the files.
  7. Tap the Back icon until are arrive back at the File Manager main page.
  8. Tap the Menu icon at bottom-left and then tap Media card.
  9. Navigate to where you want to transfer the files inside your SD card. Tap Move.
    Note: Tap Paste if you are copying the files.

 

SD card to internal storage

  1. Navigate to Home screen 3 and tap File Manager.
  2. Tap the Menu key at bottom-left and then tap Media card.
  3. Navigate to the desired SD card files or folders.
  4. Tap the Menu icon at bottom-right and then tap Select.
  5. Tap each desired folder or file to select.
  6. Tap the Move move icon.jpg icon.
    Note: To the Copy copy icon.jpg icon to duplicate the files.
  7. Tap the Back icon until are arrive back at the File Manager main page.
  8. Tap the Menu icon at bottom-left and then tap Device.
  9. Navigate to where you want to transfer the files inside your device memory. Tap Move.
    Note: Tap Paste if you are copying the files.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Swipe up and tap Storage and Access.
  4. Swipe up and tap Media card details.
  5. View the Free storage space value.
