Internal memory (RAM)

Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

Restart the device regularly

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. Tap Power off.
  3. When the device is off, press the Power key to turn the device back on.
    Note: You should restart the phone at least once a day.

 

 

Reduce memory use

  • If the device is slow, remove the widgets from Home screens (especially ones that update with information or have animation).
  • If you are using a live wallpaper and the device is slow, turn off the live wallpaper.

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

 

  1. Restart the phone.
  2. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  3. Tap Manage apps.
  4. If necessary, touch the screen and slide left or right to the 'RUNNING' screen.
  5. Examine the list of apps running in the background.
  6. View applications that are running in memory, and either:

 

 

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Manage apps.
  3. If necessary, touch the screen and slide left or right to view the 'RUNNING' screen.
  4. At the bottom of the screen, review the 'XXX MB free' information.

Internal storage (ROM)

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Manage apps.
  3. If necessary, touch the screen and slide left to view the 'ALL' screen.
  4. Tap the Menu key, and then tap Sort by size.
  5. For apps that take up a lot of space, clear the application cache and data.
  6. For apps that continue to use a lot of your storage space, uninstall them by tapping the app name, then Uninstall.

 

 

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Manage apps.
  3. If necessary, touch the screen and slide left to view the 'ALL' screen.
  4. At the bottom of the screen, review the 'XX GB free' information.

SD card

Format SD card

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap System settings.
  3. If necessary, tap the All tab.
  4. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Storage.
  5. If necessary, scroll to 'SD card,' and then tap Mount SD card.
  6. Tap Erase SD card.
  7. Tap Erase SD card.
  8. Tap Erase everything.
  9. Press the Home key to return to the main Home screen.
  10. If necessary, take a picture in order to test the device. Many devices only take photos if a properly formatted SD card is inserted.

 

 

Insert/remove SD card

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

Insert the SD card

 

  1. Use the notch on the bottom of the phone to remove the back cover.
  2. Remove the battery.

  3. Carefully slide the microSD card into the slot by matching up the position of the card with the image.

  4. Replace the battery with the gold contacts lined up with the contacts in the battery compartment.
  5. Replace the back cover.
  6. Turn on the phone.
  7. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  8. Tap System settings.
  9. If necessary, tap the All tab.
  10. Scroll down, and then tap Storage.
  11. Scroll down to 'SD card,' and then tap Mount SD card.

 

 

Remove the SD card

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap System settings.
  3. If necessary, tap the All tab.
  4. Scroll down, and then tap Storage.
  5. Scroll down to 'SD card,' and then tap Unmount SD card.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Turn off the phone.
  8. Remove the back cover using the notch at the bottom of the phone.
  9. Remove the battery using the space above the battery compartment.

  10. Carefully slide the microSD card out of the slot.

 

 

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
  2. From the Home screen, touch the Notification bar and slide down.
  3. Tap Touch for other USB options.
  4. Tap Media device (MTP).
  5. On a PC computer when the AutoPlay window appears, click Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.
    Note: If the window does not appear automatically, check that the USB cable is completely plugged in, or try another USB port.
  6. Click OK.
  7. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, double-click the SD card folder.
  8. Navigate to and right-click the file you want to delete.
  9. Click Delete, and then click Yes.
  10. When finished deleting files, on the phone tap USB storage device.
  11. On the computer, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray.
  12. Click Eject.
  13. Disconnect the device from the computer.

 

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

Access

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. If necessary, tap the APPS tab.
  3. Tap File Manager.
  4. Tap the SD card tab.
  5. Navigate to and select the file you want to open.

 

 

Delete

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. If necessary, tap the APPS tab.
  3. Tap File Manager.
  4. Tap the SD card tab.
  5. Navigate to the file you want to delete.
  6. Touch and hold the file.
  7. Tap Delete.
  8. Tap OK.

 

 

Set default memory storage

By default, the device stores data on the internal storage. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap System settings.
  3. If necessary, tap the All tab.
  4. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Storage.
  5. Tap Default storage location.
  6. Tap SD card.
  7. If necessary, tap OK.

 

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:


  1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
  2. From the Home screen, touch the Notification bar and slide down.
  3. Tap Touch for other USB options.
  4. Tap Media device (MTP).
  5. On a PC computer when the AutoPlay window appears, click Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.
    Note: If the window does not appear automatically, check that the USB cable is completely plugged in, or try another USB port.
  6. Click OK.
  7. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, double-click the SD card folder.
  8. Copy the files and pictures from your computer to the SD card folder on your device.
  9. When finished transferring files, on the phone tap USB storage device.
  10. On the computer, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray.
  11. Click Eject.
  12. Disconnect the device from the computer.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the internal storage and SD card, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap File Manager.
  3. If necessary, tap the Internal tab.
  4. Navigate to the file you want to transfer.
  5. Tap the Copy icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
  6. Select the file(s) to transfer, then tap Copy.
  7. Tap the SD card tab.
  8. If necessary, navigate to the folder you want to paste the file(s) to.
  9. Tap Paste.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap System settings.
  3. If necessary, tap the All tab.
  4. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' and then tap Storage.
  5. Scroll to 'SD card' and view the 'Available' information.
