Backlight

Brightness

To make the screen backlight brighter or darker, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Tap Display.
  5. Tap Brightness.
  6. If necessary, tap Automatic brightness to clear the Check box and turn off.
  7. Touch and drag the Brightness level Slider to the desired setting.
  8. Tap OK.

 

 

Timeout

To change the time before the backlight times out, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Tap Display.
  5. Scroll to and tap Screen timeout.
  6. Select the desired time setting:
    • 15 seconds
    • 30 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 2 minutes
    • 5 minutes
    • 10 minutes

Home screen

Add widget or shortcut

To add a widget or shortcut to the Home screen, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to the desired Home screen where the widget or shortcut will be added.
  2. Touch and hold on a vacant area on the screen that is large enough to hold the widget or shortcut.
  3. Tap Apps and widgets.
  4. Tap one of the following options:
    • Apps tab
    • Widgets tab
  5. Touch and hold on the desired app or widget.
  6. Drag your finger to move the item to the desired location on the Home screen. Release your finger.

 

 

Delete widget or shortcut

To delete a widget or shortcut from the Home screen, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to the Home screen contaiing the widget or shortcut.
  2. Touch and hold on the widget or shortcut.
  3. Drag your finger to move the item over Remove.
  4. Release your finger.

 

 

Home screen wallpaper

To change the Home screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Set wallpaper.
  3. Tap Home screen.
  4. Tap one of the following options:
    • Gallery
      1. Navigate to and tap the desired image.
      2. If desired, touch and hold on the crop box and then drag your finger to move it.
      3. If desired, touch and drag an edge of the crop box to change its size.
      4. Tap Done.
    • Live wallpapers
      1. Tap the desired Live wallpaper to preview it.
      2. Tap Set wallpaper.

    • Wallpapers
      1. At the bottom of the screen, swipe left or right to the desired wallpaper.
      2. Tap Set wallpaper.

 

 

Lock screen wallpaper

To change the lock screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Set wallpaper.
  3. Tap Lock screen.
    Note: You can also tap Home and lock screens to set a Live wallpaper to your lock screen.
  4. Tap one of the following options:
    • Gallery
      1. Navigate to and tap the desired image.
      2. If desired, touch and hold on the crop box and then drag your finger to move it.
      3. If desired, touch and drag an edge of the crop box to change its size.
      4. Tap Done.
    • Travel wallpaper
      1. Read the message and tap OK. The Travel wallpaper is now set. 
      2. If desired, tap Slideshow interval to adjust the setting. 


    • Wallpapers
      1. At the bottom of the screen, swipe left or right to the desired wallpaper.
      2. Tap Set wallpaper.

Keyboard

Change default keyboard

To change the default keyboard, follow these steps:

 

 

Samsung keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Scroll to 'Input and control,'  then tap Language and input.
  5. Tap Default.
  6. Tap Samsung keyboard.
  7. Tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon next to 'Samsung keyboard.'
  8. Tap English(US)
  9. Tap one of the following options:
    • Qwerty keyboard
    • 3 X 4 keyboard

 

Swype keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Scroll to 'Input and control,'  then tap Language and input.
  5. Tap Default.
  6. Tap Swype.


 

 

Enter symbols & numbers

To enter symbols and numbers with the keyboard, follow these steps:



Samsung keyboard - Qwerty

  1. From the alphabet keyboard, enter the desired numbers.
  2. To enter emoticons, tap the Menu key and then tap Insert Smiley.
  3. To enter symbols, choose one of the following options:

 

    1. From the alphabet keyboard, touch and hold on the key containing the desired symbol.
    2. Tap the symbol.

 

    1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the Sym key.
    2. Tap the 1/2 key for more symbols. Tap the 2/2 key to return to the the first set of symbols.
    3. Tap the ABC key to return to the alphabet keyboard. 

 

Samsung keyboard - 3 X 4

  1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the 123 Sym key to enter numbers.
  2. Tap the Sym ABC key to enter symbols.
  3. Tap the 1/3, 2/3, and 3/3 key for more symbols.
  4. Tap the ABC 123 key to return to the alphabet keyboard.
  5. To insert emoticons, tap the Menu key and then tap Insert smiley

 

Swype keyboard

  1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the 123 +!= key.

    Note: You can enter numbers using the alphabet keyboard by touching and holding on the key containing the number. Release your finger when the number appears. Tap the number if necessary.

  2. Tap the More symbols more symbols key.jpg key to see more symbols.
  3. Touch and hold on a symbol key to see more symbols.
  4. Tap the desired number or symbol.
  5. To enter emoticons, tap the Menu key and then tap Insert smiley.
  6. Tap the ABC key to return to the alphabet keyboard.

 

 

Text entry mode

To change the text entry or predictive text mode, follow these steps:

 

Samsung keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Scroll to 'Input and control,'  then tap Language and input.
  5. Next to 'Samsung keyboard,' tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon.
  6. Tap to adjust the desired text entry settings.
  7. To turn on predictive text, tap the Predictive text Switch to On. The Switch moves right and turns green. Tap Predictive text to adjust settings.
  8. To turn off predictive text, tap the Predictive text Switch to Off. The Switch moves left and turns grey.

 

Swype keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Tap Language and input.
  5. Next to 'Swype,' tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon.
  6. Tap Preferences.
  7. To turn on predictive text, tap Next word prediction to select the Check box.
  8. To turn off predictive text, tap Next word prediciton to clear the Check box.

 

 

Turn on / off haptic feedback

To turn on or turn off haptic feedback vibration, follow these steps:

 

Samsung keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Scroll to 'Input and control,'  then tap Language and input.
  5. Next to 'Samsung keyboard,' tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon.
  6. Tap Advanced.
  7. To turn on, tap Key-tap vibration to select the Check box.
  8. To turn off, tap Key-tap vibration to clear the Check box.

 

Swype keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Scroll to 'Input and control,'  then tap Language and input.
  5. Next to 'Swype,' tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon.
  6. Tap Preferences.
  7. To turn on, tap Vibrate on Keypress to select the Check box.
  8. To turn off, tap Vibrate on Keypress to clear the Check box.

Multitasking

Turn on / off multitasking

To turn on or turn off multitasking, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap the More quick settings more quick settings.jpg icon.
  3. To turn on, tap Multi window. The icon fills with color.
  4. To turn off, tap Multi window. The icon is removed of color.

 

 

Switch windows

To switch tasks or windows, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, turn on Multi window mode.
  2. From any screen, touch and hold on the Back key. The Multi window menu pops out from the left side of the screen.
  3. If necessary, swipe up or down on the Multi window to access the desired application.
    Note: Tap Edit to change your Multi window configuration.
  4. Tap the desired application to open the application.

    A small Multi window tab will still be visible on the left side of the screen. To open the Multi window again, touch the tab and drag your finger right.

  5. To open the next application, touch and hold on the application. Drag your finger over to the screen and release your finger.
  6. Touch and drag the Resize adjust window icon.jpg icon to change the window size.
  7. Tap the Switch app location switch app location icon.jpg icon to switch the order of the apps.
  8. Tap the Close app close the app icon.jpg icon to close the last application you open.
  9. To hide the Multi window tab, touch and hold the Back key again.
