Understanding the Issue

When you experience a software error or crash on your device, the Tell HTC  feature offers a way to send this information to HTC to help identify and  resolve the problem.

 

Important: The  information provided to HTC is not personally identifiable. It is only used for  resolving equipment issues and creating a better customer experience. The  information is not used outside of the troubleshooting needs.

 

 

Help & How to

What to expect
  • You see the Tell HTC report message when the device detects a system crash or other related software issue.
  • The average file size for the logs is between 60KB and 100KB. No data charges will be accrued.
  • Tell HTC captures information on Report type, Package  name, Package version, Package version name, Installed by, Process name, Time,  Device Active Time, Process Active Time, System app, Device name, Build id,  Build type, Model, Product, Version Release, Build Project, Build Tags,  Location related information (optional if user agreed to send), System log.
  • The transfer is very secure and will be transferred via https so the channel and transmission will be encrypted; additional encryption is also utilized.

 

Resolution steps
Turn on or off HTC Tell
  1. From the Home screen,  press the Menu button.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About phone.
  4. Tap Tell HTC.
  5. Tap the Report Errors to HTC check box to turn it off.

 

Send a Tell HTC report

When a system issue or crash is detected, the phone displays a pop up message.

  1. Select Tell HTC.
  2. Enter in a description (optional).

  3. Check the box to send  location data (optional).
  4. Check the both I agree the privacy statement.

  5. Tap Accept to the privacy statement.

  6. Tap Send.

 

Change report preference
  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu button.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About phone
  4. Tap Tell HTC.
  5. Tap Report preference
  6. Select the following options;
  7. Automatically send error report
  8. Ask me each time before sending (on by default)

 

Change network preference

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu button.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About phone.
  4. Tap Tell HTC.
  5. Tap Network preference.
  6. Select the following options:
    • When data connection is available
    • When Wi-Fi or cable connection is available
