    Backup files to Nokia Ovi Suite

    Back up files - Device to computer using Ovi Suite

     

    To copy files from the device to a computer using a USB cable and the Ovi Suite on the computer, follow these steps:

     

    Note: Ovi Suite works for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP computers. It is not currently available for Mac computers.

     

    Set USB default

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap USB.
    6. Tap Mass storage if not already set as default.

     

    Install Nokia Ovi Suite

     

    1. Connect the large end of a USB cable to the computer.
    2. Connect the small end of the USB cable to the device.
    3. On a Windows computer, click Start and click My Computer.
    4. Double click the NokiaOvi Suite removable disk entry.
    5. Double click Nokia_Ovi_Suite_installer_ALL.exe to install the Ovi Suite software.
    6. Click Install.

    Move files

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap USB.
    6. Tap Nokia Ovi Suite if not already set as default.
    7. On your PC, click Start > All Programs > Nokia > Nokia Ovi Suite
    8. If necessary, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
    9. Click your device name entry and click Next.

    10. Sign in to your Ovi account, create a new account, or skip creating an account at this time.
    11. In the Ovi Suite menu, click Tools and click Backup.

    12. Read the information about applications on your device (music player, etc.) being closed during backup.
    13. Click Next.

    14. If desired, click to deselect any types of files you do not want to back up.
    15. If desired, click Browse to choose a different location where the backup will be saved.
    16. Click Start.

    17. Depending on how much data will be transferred, the backup may take several minutes.
    18. When the backup has completed, click Finish

    Bluetooth / Infrared

    Bluetooth - Transfer files

     

    To transfer files using Bluetooth, follow these steps:

     

    1. Find and touch and hold the file you want to transfer (for example, an image in the device’s photo album).
    2. Tap Send.
    3. Tap Via Bluetooth.
    4. Tap the desired paired Bluetooth device to which you want to transfer the file.
    5. If necessary, click OK on the other device (if a computer) to allow access.

    Bluetooth - Turn off and disconnect

     

    To turn off Bluetooth connectivity, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap Bluetooth.
    6. Tap Bluetooth to turn off Bluetooth.

    6. Tap Bluetooth to turn on Bluetooth.
    7. Tap the Paired devices tab (second tab at the top of the screen).

    9. Tap New paired device.

    12. If prompted, enter the passcode and tap OK.
    13. On the other device, enter the security code to accept pairing.

    Find your location

    To find your location with Nokia Maps, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Scroll to and tap Maps.
    3. Tap Map.
    4. When the map loads, the My position image019.jpg icon shows your location.
    5. Tap the My position icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen if your location is not shown on the map itself.
    6. View your location on the new map.

     

    Get directions

     

    To look up driving directions with Nokia Maps, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Scroll to and tap Maps.
    3. Tap Drive.
    4. Select one of the following options:
      • Drive home
      • Set destination
        • Select one of the following options:
          • History
            • Scroll to and select a previous location.
          • Search
            • Scroll to and select a previous location, or enter a location using the keyboard.
            • Tap the Checkmark icon.
          • From map
            • Drag the map with your finger to place your destination in the circled center of the map.
    5. Tap Select.

     

    Search for location

     

    To search for location with Nokia Maps, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Scroll to and tap Maps.
    3. Tap Map.
    4. Tap Search.
    5. Scroll to and select a previous location, or enter a location using the keyboard.

    Add browser bookmark

     

    To add a bookmark to the device browser, follow these steps:

    3. To keep the default bookmark name, tap OK.
    4. To change the bookmark name, tap in the text entry field and edit the name using the keyboard.
    5. Tap the Checkmark icon.
    6. Tap OK.

     

    Browser settings (clear cache, view history)

     

    To clear the mobile browser cache, cookies, or history, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any browser page, tap the image023.jpg icon.
    2. Tap Settings.

      • All

    To search from within a Web page, follow these steps:

    Open new window

     

    To open a new Web browser window, follow these steps:

    5. Tap the address field at the top of the screen.
    6. Scroll to and tap the desired URL, or enter a URL using the keyboard.

     

    Zoom in / out

     

    To zoom in and out of a Web page, follow these steps:

     

    Note: You cannot zoom in and out on Web pages that are already adapted for mobile devices.

     

    1. From the web page, double-tap the screen to zoom in.
    2. Repeated double-taps will zoom in further and then zoom out.

     

    OR

     

    From the web page, touch two fingers to the screen and slide them apart or together to zoom in or out.

    Near Field Communication - Software Version 024.002

     

    Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range communication technology that allows you to exchange text (also known as NFC tags), share digital content such as photos and videos, and connect electronic devices with just a touch. NFC tags can include text, phone numbers, virtual business card or contact info, and website URLs. Your phone contains the NFC technology that allows you to use certain services and features that require NFC capability.

     

    To watch a video showing how to exchange contact information and share photos and videos, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Apps&Games.
    3. Tap Share.
    4. Tap Watch tutorial.

     

    NFC – Turn on / off

     

    To read tags or pair with an NFC-enabled Bluetooth headset, NFC must be turned on.

     

    To turn NFC on or off, follow these steps:

     

    Using Settings

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap NFC.
    6. Tap NFC again to turn on or turn off.

     

    Using a Home screen widget

     

    To turn NFC on or off, tap the NFC widget; when the icon is green, NFC is on.

     

    NFC – Change settings – Not supported

     

    Changing NFC settings other than turning NFC on or off is not supported.

    NFC – Pair / unpair NFC-enabled Bluetooth headset

     

    To pair or unpair your Nokia Astound phone with an (optional) NFC-enabled Nokia Bluetooth headset, follow these steps:

     

    Note: The phone’s NFC must be turned on to use it to pair with a headset.

     

    Pair

     

    1. Place the upper back of the Nokia Astound phone against the NFC-enabled Bluetooth headset.
    2. The headset’s indicator light will turn green during paring.
    3. When the headset’s indicator light blinks blue, the headset and phone have been paired.

     

    Unpair

     

    1. Place the upper back of the Nokia Astound phone against the paired NFC-enabled Bluetooth headset.
    2. When the headset’s indicator light stops blinking, the headset and phone have been unpaired.

     

    NFC – Read tag

     

    To read NFC tag information from a printed tag, follow these steps:

     

    Note: The phone’s NFC must be turned on to use it to read a tag.

     

    Place the upper back of your Nokia Astound phone against the printed tag.

     

    When your phone successfully reads an NFC tag, it will play a notification sound and display a pop-up window. Depending on the type of tag, perform one of the following actions:

     

    Tag with contact information

     

    The contact information is saved to “My folders” and removed as a new message.

     

    To view the information later, from any Home screen, press the Menu key, tap Messaging, tap Messaging again, and then scroll down and tap My folders.

     

    Tag with URL address

    Tag with an unsupported format

     

    • Tap OK to dismiss the pop-up window.

     

    NFC – Share contact information

     

    To share contact information for yourself or someone else by sending it to another Nokia Astound phone, follow these steps:

     

    Note: The Nokia Astound uses NFC to initiate the sharing process, but the data is transferred via Bluetooth, which supports a higher transfer rate than NFC.

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Apps&Games.
    3. Tap Share.
    4. Tap to choose one of the following options:
      • My card
        1. Place the upper backs of the two Nokia Astound phones together.
        2. If prompted, on the other phone, tap Yes to activate Bluetooth.
        3. If necessary, move the two phones apart and then back together to initiate sharing.
        4. On the other phone, tap Yes to receive the message via Bluetooth.
        5. On the other phone, your contact information will display as soon as the transfer is completed.
      • Contacts
        1. Scroll to and tap to select the check boxes of the contacts you want to share.
        2. Place the upper backs of the two Nokia Astound phones together.
        3. If prompted, on the other phone, tap Yes to activate Bluetooth.
        4. If necessary, move the two phones apart and then back together to initiate sharing.
        5. On the other phone, tap Yes to receive the message via Bluetooth.
        6. On the other phone, the contact information will display as soon as the transfer is completed.

     

    Note: If more than one contact is shared at the same time, a pop-up window may report that the files were received, but they will not automatically display.

     

    NFC – Share photos and videos

     

    To share photos or videos by sending them to another Nokia Astound phone, follow these steps:

    Tethering

     

    With Tethering, your phone can share its mobile data connection with a single Windows computer using a USB cable or Bluetooth. Tethering works with Windows XP SP3 or later, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

     

    The Nokia Astound can share its mobile data connection with a Windows computer in two main ways:

     

    • Using Nokia PC Internet Access software on your computer (this allows tethering only via the micro-USB cable). To use the Nokia PC Internet Access software you must first install it on your computer. Once the software is installed, tethering can begin with a single click.
    • Using Ovi Suite PC software on your computer (this allows tethering via wireless Bluetooth or via the micro-USB cable). To use the Ovi Suite PC software you first must install it on your computer. Once the software is installed, you must then pair your phone using the micro-USB cable or wirelessly using Bluetooth before you can begin tethering.

     

    Important: See Smartphone Mobile Hotspot for data plan requirements and additional information.

     

    Install the Nokia PC Internet Access Software

     

    To install the Nokia PC Internet Access software on a Windows computer, follow these steps:

     

    1. On your phone, from any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap USB.
    6. Tap Conn. PC to net to select it as the default.

    7. Connect your phone to the computer using the micro-USB cable included in the box.
    8. On the computer, select Take no action in the Portable Device pop-up window.

    9. When the Nokia PC Internet Access window appears, select I accept the terms and conditions and then click the arrow at the bottom of the window.

    10. When installation is complete, the installation window disappears.
    11. Once the software is installed, and if your phone’s USB mode is set to Conn. PC to net, the Nokia PC Internet Access window will open whenever you connect your phone to the computer via the micro-USB cable.

     

    Tether phone to PC using Nokia PC Internet Access

     

    To tether your phone to a computer using Nokia PC Internet Access, follow these steps:

     

    Note: You cannot tether your phone via Bluetooth when using Nokia PC Internet Access.

     

    1. If not already connected, connect your phone to the computer using the micro-USB cable included in the box.
    2. On the computer, if the Nokia PC Internet Access window does not appear automatically, click Start > All Programs > Nokia PC Internet Access > Nokia PC Internet Access to launch the software.If the Portable Device pop-up window appears, select Take no action.

    3. When the Nokia PC Internet Access window appears, click Connect to begin sharing your phone’s mobile data connection with your computer.

    4. The Nokia PC Internet Access window now shows the connection’s duration and the amount of data transferred.

    6. To close the window, click Close.
    7. Safely disconnect your phone from the computer.

     

    Install the Ovi Suite PC Software

     

     

    Note: The Ovi Suite PC software is required in order to use the device as a wireless modem (using Bluetooth to transfer data between the device and the computer). It also allows tethering via the micro-USB cable.

     

    1. Connect the device to the computer using the micro-USB cable included in the box.
    2. On the device, select Mass Storage, if prompted.

      Note: If there isn’t a pop-up, go to My Computer > Nokia C7-00.1 > Mass memory.
    4. Double-click on Nokia_Ovi_Suite_installer_ALL.exe.

    Note: You must now pair your phone using a USB cable or wirelessly using Bluetooth before you can begin tethering.

     

     

     

    Pair phone to PC via USB cable

     

    1. Launch the Nokia Ovi Suite software.
      Note: If connecting for the first time, the customer will be prompted to ‘Register to a Nokia account.’ This step can be skipped for later.
    2. Confirm Ovi suite shows the device as connected.

    4. Click Tools > Connect to Internet.

    5. Select I want to select my home operator from a list on the ‘Connect to internet screen’, and then click next.

    6. Use the drop-down list and select T-Mobile in the ‘Select your home operator’ field, and then click Connect.

    7. Wait for the connection to successfully complete.

    8. The device is now tethered as a modem.
    9. Confirm data connectivity works on the computer.

    Pair phone to PC via Bluetooth

     

    Note: Confirm the device has Bluetooth turned on and is no longer connected to the PC via the USB cable.

     

    1. Launch the Nokia Ovi Suite software.
      Note: If connecting for the first time, the customer will be prompted to ‘Register to a Nokia account’. This step can be skipped for later.
    2. From the Welcome page, click Tools > ‘Add new device’.
    3. If not already connected, connect the device to the computer using the micro-USB cable included in the box.
    4. On the device, select Nokia Ovi Suite, if prompted.

    5. Click Use Bluetooth instead on the ‘Add new device’ screen.

    6. Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the device. See Bluetooth – Turn on and pair for details

    7. Once Ovi Suite has found available devices, select the customer’s device from the list.

    8. The device will show ‘Accept pairing request from…’ prompt; select Yes.

    9. Ovi Suite will display a passcode; enter this code into the device.

    10. The device will show ‘Authorize device to make connections automatically’; customers can select based on preference.

    HotSpot - Find location

     

    To locate a T-Mobile HotSpot from your device, follow these steps:

     

    Note: Wi-Fi mustbe enabled before you can find HotSpot locations.

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Web.
    3. Tap Locations.
    4. Tap Go to find a HotSpot location near you.
    5. Tap the text fields to enter location information.
    6. Tap Submit.

     

    Hotspot - Log in

     

    To log in to a T-Mobile HotSpot from your device, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Web.
    3. If necessary, tap the address field to enter the T-Mobile HotSpot address: https://service1.hotspot.t-mobile.com
    4. Tap the image021.jpg icon to browse to that URL.
    5. Tap the text fields to enter your User Name and Password.
    6. Tap Log in.

     

    MAC address - Locate

     

    To locate the Wi-Fi MAC address for your device, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Call.
    2. Enter *#62209526#

     

    OR

     

    1. Enter *#MAC0WLAN#
    2. View the Wi-Fi MAC address.

     

    Network - Add from available

     

    To add a new Wi-Fi network from available networks, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap Wi-Fi.
    6. Scroll to and select a network.

     

     

    Network - Add from available - Software Version 024.002

     

    To add a new Wi-Fi network from available networks, follow these steps:

     

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap Wi-Fi.
    6. If necessary, tap Options and tap Switch Wi-Fi on.
    7. Scroll to and select a network.
    8. If necessary, tap the text field to enter a pre-shared key, tap the Checkmark icon, and then tap OK.

     

    Network - Add manually

     

    To manually add a new Wi-Fi network, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap Wi-Fi.
    6. Scroll to and tap Other (hidden network).
    7. Tap the text field to enter a network name/SSID using the keyboard.
    8. Tap the Checkmark icon.

    10. If necessary, select one of the following network mode options:
      • Infrastructure(public)
      • Infrastructure(hidden)
      • Ad-hoc (public)
    11. If required, tap the text field to enter security settings.

    Wi-Fi Calling

     

     

    Wi-Fi Calling improves your coverage and allows you to make phone calls and send messages over a Wi-Fi network (when one is available).Wi-Fi Calling minutes count the same as cellular calling minutes on your phone bill.

     

    To make a call using Wi-Fi Calling, Wi-Fi Calling must be turned on, and you must be connected to a Wi-Fi network.

     

     

    To stay on a Wi-Fi call, you must remain in range of the Wi-Fi network. Your call will be dropped as you move outside the Wi-Fi range.Your device will make an audible beep and show the message “Wi-Fi connection failed” when a call is about to be dropped.

     

    Turn on Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Calling

     

    To turn Wi-Fi on or off, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Connectivity.
    5. Tap Wi-Fi.
    6. Tap Options.
    7. Tap Turn Wi-Fi on or Turn Wi-Fi off.

     

    Wi-Fi Calling - Turn on or off

     

    Wi-Fi Calling is on by default on your device.

     

    To turn Wi-Fi Calling on or off, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
    4. Tap Wi-Fi Calling connection to turn Wi-Fi Calling on or off.

     

    Note: You can choose to turn off Wi-Fi Calling. You can stay connected to Wi-Fi for data usage but not use the Wi-Fi Calling feature.

     

    Wi-Fi Calling - Choose network

     

    To choose the Wi-Fi network to use for Wi-Fi Calling, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Help&Settings.
    3. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
    4. Tap Available networks
    5. Scroll to and tap the desired network.
    6. Tap Connect.
    7. If prompted, enter the password for the network.
