Overview

Before you check data usage, review the following information:

T-Mobile Connection Manager allows you to monitor your approximate data usage with the Usage Meter. The amount of data transferred (transmitted and received) is measured in kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), or terabytes (TB). The amount of data depends on the type of files transferred:

  • Text files typically use relatively small amounts of data.
  • Graphics files and music files typically use larger amounts of data than text files.
  • Video files use very large amounts of data.

Your usage amount varies depending on how often you use the network and the type of information you transfer. The type of data plan you have determines how much data you can transfer before incurring additional charges.Example: If you are on a 5GB plan, any data transfer over the 5GB limit will incur additional charges.T-Mobile sends you a free text message, viewable in your T-Mobile Connection Manager inbox, when you have exceeded your data plan limit.

Setup VPN

You need to set up VPN settings before connecting to VPN.

To set up VPN, follow these steps:

Important: The webConnect Manager only supports VPN with the following VPN clients: Microsoft, Cisco, Nortel, Checkpoint, NetMotion

Checkpoint notes

  • Only keep the T-Mobile Connection Manager open only when you have an active connection managed by T-Mobile Connection Manager open.
  • If you want to establish another type of connection with the CheckPoint VPN client, you MUST shut down QuickLink Mobile first.
  • When T-Mobile Connection Manager shuts down, it puts the VPN client back into a mode that users can access.

Netmotion notes

  • NetMotion's VPN client takes complete control of all data communication to and from a computer.
  • This forces all data communication applications to go through the 'tunnel' it creates. However, T-Mobile Connection Manager needs to bypass this tunnel in order to establish connections. T-Mobile Connection Manager accomplishes this in one of the following ways:
    • The NetMotion VPN client maintains a list of applications that are allowed to bypass its VPN tunnel. If your VPN administrator has added T-Mobile Connection Manager to this list, T-Mobile Connection Manager can establish connections without interrupting the operation of the NetMotion client.
    • If T-Mobile Connection Manager has not been added to NetMotion's bypass list, T-Mobile Connection Manager detects that the NetMotion client is interfering with its operations when it attempts to establish a connection. When this happens, it instructs the NetMotion client to enter bypass mode (which allows all applications to bypass its tunnel) while the connection is being established. Once the connection has been successfully established, T-Mobile Connection Manager returns the NetMotion client to its normal operating mode.

  1. Confirm a supported VPN client is installed your computer.
  2. Open the Connection Manager.
  3. Click the T-Mobile Broadband tab.
  4. Click Tools > Settings.
