    How to change, increase, or decrease the backlight duration

     

    To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlight dims, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.

    4. Tap Screen timeout.
    5. Tap a duration:
      • 15 seconds
      • 30 seconds
      • 1 minute
      • 2 minutes
      • 10 minutes

    5. Tap View Original to launch the browser and view more information about the topic on www.motorola.com.

     

    Tips and Tricks widget

    My Account

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Applications tab.

    4. Tap T-Mobile My Account.

    6. Tap OK to replace the previous version of the application.
    7. Tap OK. When the application has finished downloading and installing, the Notifier7127_27_28_cache.jpg icon appears on the status bar and in the Notification Drawer.

     

    Access Swype help

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Locale & text.
    4. Tap Swype.
    5. Scroll down and tap Swype Help or Tutorial.


    Over The Air (OTA) updates

    The phone automatically updates its software using over-the-air (OTA) updates. When new software is available, the phone displays a prompt asking you to update the system. You can also manually check for software updates.

    When you see a prompt for a software update, perform one of the following actions:

     

    • To update the software, tap Update now. The update may take 5-10 minutes to download. After updating, the phone restarts automatically.
    • To wait and update later, tap Update later. You normally receive another reminder 6-24 hours later.

     

    There are two kinds of software updates:

     

    • Simple patch: This only patches software bugs and features, and it does not reset the phone.
    • Full software update: The full software update resets the phone and removes settings or applications you have stored. The update warns you if information will be erased. If you lose any applications from Android Market, you can download them again at no cost.

     

    To check for available Over the Air (OTA) updates, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap About phone.
    4. Tap System updates.

    Airplane mode

    How to turn on or turn off airplane mode

     

    Airplane mode turns off the wireless radio. This allows you to use programs while traveling on an airplane, but not make or receive calls. To turn on airplane mode, follow these steps:

     

    Using the Lock key

    1. From the Home screen, press and hold the Power / Lock key on the right side of your phone.
    2. At Airplane mode, tap On or Off.

     

    Using the Settings menu

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Wireless controls.
    4. Tap Airplane mode to turn on or off.


    Browser message (WAP Push)

    Browser messages (WAP Push) are not supported.

    Data roaming

    How to use, turn on, or turn off data roaming

     

    If the Data Roaming option and Data Synchronization options are turned on while roaming, you incur charges for accessing the Internet, e-mail, or synchronizing while roaming.

    To use, turn on, or turn off data roaming, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Wireless Controls.
    4. Tap Mobile networks.
    5. Tap Data Roaming to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.


    Manual network selection

    How to perform a manual network selection to register on a network

    To manually select the wireless network the phone connects to, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Operator Selection.
    5. Tap Search networks.
    6. Tap the desired network.

     

    Note: The phone detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

    Reset

    Master Reset

    How to perform a master reset

     

    Hard or master reset

     

    A hard reset restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). To perform a hard reset, follow these steps:

     

    1. Back up all necessary data. See: Preparing for a master reset on Android.
    2. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap SD card & storage.
    5. Tap Factory data reset.
    6. Tap Reset phone.
    7. Tap Erase everything.


    Master Reset using the Hardware buttons

     

    1. If the device is responsive, back up all necessary data. See: Preparing for a master reset on Android.
    2. Power off the phone
    3. While the phone is off, press and hold the Camera key, then turn the phone back on using the Lock/Power key
      • Note: Continue to hold down the Camera key while the phone boots up
    4. When prompted, release the Camera key
    5. On the USB FastBoot/BOOTLOADR MENU screen, press and release the Volume down key to enter the Recovery Mode
      • If done correctly, you will see VOLUME DOWN KEY PRESSED appear on the screen
      • IMPORTANT: You only have 10 seconds to complete this step before the device powers back on. If that occurs, you will need to start back at Step 1
    6. When the "Triangle!" screen appears, tap the bottom right corner of the display to access the Motorola system recovery screen .
      • Note: If this doesn't work, Touch the bottom right corner and make a small circle gesture to access the recovery screen.
    7. Highlight the row labeled wipe data/factory reset [Alt+W]
      • Note: You can use the touch display, volume up/down keys, or the Tinytouch pad to highlight the row
    8. Tap Ok to begin the wipe/factory reset
    9. When the wipe is complete and the device returns to the Motorola system recover page, highlight the row labeled reboot system now [Menu+Back]
      • Note: You can use the touch display, volume up/down keys, or the Tinytouch pad to highlight the row
    10. Tap Ok to begin the reboot
    11. When the device powers back up, the customer will see the MOTOBLUR setup screen and have the option to create or sign into an existing BLUR account

     

     

    Soft Reset

    How to perform a soft reset

     

    A soft reset clears and shuts down all active programs. This can help when the phone is running slower than normal or not performing properly. To perform a soft reset, follow these steps:

     

    1. Save any files that are open.
    2. Press and hold the Power / Lock key to turn off the phone.
    3. Press and hold the Power / Lock key again to turn on the phone.

    Change - SIM PIN code

    How to change the default SIM PIN code

     

    To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Display & security.
    4. Tap Set up SIM card lock.
    5. Tap Change SIM PIN.
      Note: Lock SIM card must be selected to change the SIM PIN.
    6. Enter the old PIN.
      Note: The default PIN is 1234.
    7. Tap OK.
    8. Enter a new PIN.
    9. Tap OK.
    10. Enter the new PIN again.
    11. Tap OK.


    Change - Security code

    Changing the security code is not supported

    Lock – keypad lock

    How to lock and unlock the keypad

     

    Locking the keypad protects against accidental key presses. No password is required to unlock the keypad. To lock and unlock the keypad, follow these steps:

     

    Manual keypad lock

     

    To lock the keypad.

     

    Quickly press the Power/Lock key.

     

    To unlock the keypad.

     

    Press the Menu key.

     

    Lock - Phone lock

    How to turn on or turn off the phone lock

     

    Phone lock causes the phone to lock when you turn it off, or when the phone goes into a lock/standby mode. When you turn the phone back on, or wake it up from standby mode, you must enter a password. To turn on or turn off the phone lock, follow these steps:

     

    Pattern lock

     

    To enable phone lock using the pattern lock

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Display & security.
    4. Tap Security lock.
    5. Tap Security lock type.
    6. Tap Pattern lock.
    7. Read the lock information.
    8. Tap Next.
    9. Watch the example video.
    10. Tap Next.
    11. Draw the desired pattern.
    12. Tap Continue.
    13. Re-draw the pattern.
    14. Tap Confirm.
    15. Tap Security lock timer.
    16. Tap one of the following:
      • When display is off
      • 1 minute

      • 20 minutes

     

    To unlock the phone using the pattern lock

     

    1. Press the Menu key.
    2. Draw the lock pattern.

     

    Passcode lock

     

    To enable phone lock using the passcode lock

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Display & security.
    4. Tap Security lock.
    5. Tap Security lock type.
    6. Tap Passcode lock.
    7. Enter the desired passcode.
    8. Tap the Check Mark icon to accept.
    9. Re-enter the passcode.
    10. Tap the Check Mark icon again.

     

    To unlock the phone using the passcode lock

     

    1. Press the Menu key.
    2. Enter the passcode.
    3. Tap the Check Mark icon.


    Lock - SIM card lock

    How to turn on or turn off the SIM PIN code

     

    The SIM PIN code is used to protect the SIM from being used in other phones. When you enable the SIM PIN code, the phone prompts you to enter the code after turning it on. To turn on or turn off the SIM card lock, follow these steps:

     

    To enable SIM card lock

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Display & security.
    4. Tap Set up SIM card lock.
    5. Tap Lock SIM card.
    6. Enter the SIM PIN.
      Note: The default PIN is 1234.
    7. Tap OK.

     

    To disable SIM card unlock

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Security & location.
    4. Touch and slide the menu upward.
    5. Tap Set up SIM card lock.
    6. Tap Lock SIM card.
    7. Enter the SIM PIN.
      Note: The default PIN is 1234.
    8. Tap OK.


    Unblock - PIN (PUK Code)

    How to enter a PUK code

     

    Related errors:

     

    • 'PIN code blocked. Enter PUK code:'
    • 'Enter PUK code'
    • 'SIM card is PIN blocked.'

    If you enter the PIN code incorrectly several times in a row, the phone blocks you from attempting again. To enter a PUK code and unblock the PIN, follow these steps:

     

    Important: You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong code can permanently damage your SIM card.

     

    1. Contact us to request your PUK code.
    2. Tap Unlock SIM card using PIN unblocking code.
    3. Type in the PUK code.
    4. Tap Continue.
    5. Type in a new SIM PIN code.
    6. Type in the same SIM PIN code to confirm.
    7. Tap Continue.


    Unblock - SIM (Mobile Device unlock)

    How to enter a Mobile Device unlock code

    • 'Please Wait to Enter Special Code'

     

    The Mobile Device unlock code allows the phone to use a SIM card from another wireless carrier. To enter the Mobile Device unlock code, follow these steps:

     

    Important: Stop if you receive an error message while performing the instructions below. The phone locks permanently if you enter the incorrect code multiple times.

     

    1. Turn on the phone with the blocked SIM.
      The phone displays a screen to enter the unblock code.
    2. Enter the unblock code.
    3. Tap Unblock.

    Alarm clock - Set

    How to set the alarm clock

     

    To set the alarm clock, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Applications tab.
    2. Tap Alarm clock.
    3. Tap the first Alarm Name.
    4. Tap Alarm to select (turn on) the check box.
    5. Tap Name.
    6. Enter a name for the alarm, if desired.
    7. Tap OK.
    8. Tap Time.
    9. Tap the + or icons set the time.
    10. Tap AM or PM.
    11. Tap Set.
    12. Tap Sound.
    13. Tap the desired ringtone.
    14. Tap OK.
    15. Tap Vibrate to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.
    16. Tap Repeat.
    17. Tap to select or clear the check boxes next to the desired days of the week.
    18. Tap OK.


    Auto-update (NITZ)

    How to turn on or turn off automatic update of time and date (NITZ)

     

    Automatic update of time and date (NITZ) checks for the correct time while the phone turns on. To turn on or turn off NITZ, follow these steps:

     

    Note: When you enter a different time zone and turn on your phone, it automatically updates to the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Date & time.
    4. Tap Automatic to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.
