How to transfer files via Bluetooth

 

To transfer files using Bluetooth, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Start.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless controls.
  4. Tap Bluetooth.
  5. If Bluetooth is off, tap Yes to turn it on.
  6. Turn on Bluetooth on the other device and make sure it is discoverable.
  7. On the devices list, tap the device for pairing.
  8. Enter the password.
    Note: The default password is 1234.
  9. Tap OK. The other device accepts the pairing.
  10. Tap File Transfer.
  11. Tap Done.
  12. Press the Start key.
  13. Tap File Explorer.
  14. Navigate to the file you wish to send.
  15. Touch and hold the file.
  16. Tap Send via Bluetooth.
  17. Tap the device to receive the file. The other device accepts the file.

How to use Mobile Device Center

 

Mobile Device Center helps you synchronize files between your computer and your device.

 

You can synchronize e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks directly with your computer by connecting your device to your computer using the USB cable. Before you can synchronize using the USB cable, you must first install Mobile Device Center 6.1 or higher on your computer.

 

Note: Mobile Device Center is for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users. Windows XP users can install the application Microsoft ActiveSync.

 

Mobile Device Center is a synchronization program that allows you to:

 

  • Synchronize your e-mail, calendar, tasks, contacts, and Internet Explorer favorites
  • Copy files between your device and your computer
  • Install applications on your device
  • Back up and restore device information

 

Set up and install

 

How to set up your phone with Mobile Device Center

 

To set up your phone with Mobile Device Center, follow these steps:

 

Note: Mobile Device Center is for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users. Windows XP users can install the application Microsoft ActiveSync.

 

  1. Plug the USB cable into the sync connector port on the left side of your device.
  2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer.
    • If Mobile Device Center is not already installed, it installs automatically.If Mobile Device Center does not install automatically, go to http://www.windowsmobile.com/getstarted to download the Mobile Device Center installer.
  3. Mobile Device Center automatically detects your phone and launches the setup wizard. Click Accept to the Microsoft License Terms.
  4. Click Remind me Later to the registration request.
  5. Mobile Device Center automatically detects your device and launches the setup wizard. Click Set up your device.
  6. Click to select the check boxes for the items you wish to sync.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Enter your server address, user name, password, and domain.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Enter a name for your phone.
  11. Click Set Up.
    • Mobile Device Center synchronizes your data.

How to synchronize your phone with Mobile Device Center

 

To synchronize your phone with Mobile Device Center, follow these steps:

 

Note: You must first set up your phone with Mobile Device Center before synchronizing.

 

  1. Plug the USB cable into the sync connector port on the bottom of your phone.
  2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer.
  3. On your computer, go to Start, All Programs, Windows Mobile Device Center to open Mobile Device Center.
  4. Click the Synchronize icon to synchronize your phone with your computer.
    • Note: Refer to your phone’s User Manual for additional help with Mobile Device Center.

 

Google Sync

Hot to set up your Windows Mobile phone for Google Sync

 

Google Sync allows you to synchronize your Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts using ActiveSync on your HTC HD2. To set up Google Sync, follow these steps:

 

  1. If your device is plugged into the USB cable, unplug it.
  2. From the Home screen, tap Start.
  3. Tap the Tools icon.
  4. Tap ActiveSync.
  5. Tap Menu.
  6. Tap Add Server Source.
  7. Enter your complete Gmail address.
  8. Clear the Attempt to detect Exchange Server Settings automatically check box.
  9. Tap Next.
  10. For the Server address, enter m.google.com.
  11. Leave This server requires an encrypted (ssl) connection selected.
  12. Press Next.
  13. In the User name: field, enter your complete Gmail address.
  14. In the Password: field, enter your Gmail password.
  15. Leave the Domain: field blank.
  16. Select the Save password field check box.
  17. Press Next.
  18. On the next screen, select the Contacts, Calendar, or Email check boxes.
    • Important: Do not select Tasks or Text Messages. Google Sync does not support these items, and they cause device issues.
  19. Tap Finish.
  20. Wait for the device to finish synchronizing with Google Sync.

 

Schedule synchronization

 

How to schedule synchronization and save the battery

 

You can save battery life if you turn off Direct Push and set a schedule for synchronizing e-mail and calendar events. The less frequently you synchronize, the longer the battery lasts. To set this schedule, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Data services.
  3. Tap ActiveSync.
  4. Tap Peak time and Non-peak time to select different sync schedules for each.

Tethering

Your device has the capability to share its mobile data connection with a single computer via a USB cable. You will need an Unlimited Web feature that costs $19.95 or higher, as well as the Tethering & Wi-Fi Sharing Feature.

 

Tethering works with Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista. You must have Microsoft ActiveSync installed for Windows XP. For Windows Vista and Windows 7, you will need to have Windows Mobile Device Center installed.

 

When you connect your device to a computer with a USB cable, you can either tether or access files on the memory card but you cannot do both. If you want to use your computer to access the memory card, then you must first turn off tethering.

 

Tether Your Device

 

To tether your device with a computer or other device and use it as a modem, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect your device to a computer using a USB cable.
    Note: For ActiveSync, Connect to PC may display on the HD2. Select ActiveSync and tap Done.

  2. On the computer, Open Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center.
    Note: The setting Allow data connections on device when connected to PC will need to be turned on.
  3. On the HD2, select Start.
  4. Select Tools.

  5. Select Internet Sharing.

  6. Tap PC Connection and select USB.
  7. Tap Network Connection and select T-Mobile Data.
  8. Tap Connect.

 

Your device starts sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer or other device via the USB connection.

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) control panel allows you to configure and connect to VPN networks. To add a new VPN network, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Start.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless Controls.
  4. Tap Data connection.
  5. Tap Add a new VPN server connection.
  6. Tap Name.
  7. Enter a name for your connection.
  8. Tap Host name/IP.
  9. Enter your host name or IP address.
  10. Tap one of the following VPN types:
    • Tap IPSec/L2TP
      1. Tap Next.
      2. Tap A certificate on this device or A pre-shared key.
      3. Enter the key.
      4. Tap Next.
    • PPTP
      1. Tap Next.
  11. Tap User name.
  12. Enter your username.
  13. Tap Password.
  14. Enter your password.
  15. Tap Domain.
  16. Enter your domain name.
  17. If required, tap Advanced to add additional settings.
  18. Tap Finish.

To connect to a gogo in-flight connection, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Start.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless controls.
  4. Tap In-flight Internet.
  5. Tap the gogoinflight network.
    Note: The gogoinflight network only displays if supported on your flight.
  6. Press the Home key.
  7. Tap the Internet tab.
  8. Tap Launch browser.
    You are redirected to the gogo in-flight page.
  9. Login or create a new account on the gogo in-flight page.
