    To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlight dims, follow these steps:

      • 15 seconds

    Airplane mode

    How to turn on or turn off airplane mode

     

    Airplane mode turns off the wireless radio. This allows you to use programs while travelling on an airplane, but not make or receive calls. To turn on airplane mode, follow these steps:

     

    Using the Power key

     

    1. From the Home screen, press and hold the Power key on the top of your phone.
    2. Tap Airplane mode to turn on or off.

     

     

    Using the Settings menu

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Wireless & networks.
    4. Tap Airplane mode to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.

     

    Browser message (WAP Push)

     

    WAP push messages are supported but you cannot turn them off.

     

    Change band

    Manual network selection

    To manually select the wireless network the phone connects to, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.

    7. Tap the desired network.

     

    Note: The phone detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

    Reset

     

    Master Reset

     

    How to perform a master reset

     

    Important: A master reset restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). A master reset will erase all your data and require you to sign in again and go through set up screens.

     

    1. Back up all necessary data. See: Preparing for a master reset on Android.
    2. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Privacy.
    5. Tap Factory data reset.
    6. Tap Reset phone.
    7. Scroll down and uncheck Delete Data on Memory Card.
    8. Tap Erase everything.

     

    Master Reset using the Hardware keys

     

     

    To perform a master reset using the hardware keys, follow these steps:

     

    Important: Before  completing a master reset, confirm the customer has their MOTOBLUR User ID and  Password if they intend to sign back inot their existing MOTOBLUR account!  Completing a master reset will erase all data stored o the phone memory and  reset settings to the factory default.

     

     

    1. If the device is responsive and can synchronize files, back up all necessary data. See: Preparing for a master reset on Android.
    2. Turn off the phone.
    3. Press and hold the X key, then turn the phone back on using  the Lock / Power key.
      • Note: Continue to hold down the X key until you see the  phone go into recovery mode (screen with Android robot, Triangle, and  exclamation mark).

    4. Press the Lock / Power key once more to access the  Android System Recovery Utility screen.
    5. Use the Volume Down, Left Arrow key, or  the BACKTRACK to highlight wipe data/factory  reset.
    6. Press the Return key.

    7. Use the Volume Down, Left Arrow key, or  the BACKTRACK to highlight Yes -- delete all user  data.

    8. Press the Return key to master reset and wipe all data.

    9. When finished, you will be taken back to the Android System Recovery  Utility screen.

    10. Confirm reboot system now is highlighted, then press  the Return key.

    11. The device will power cycle, and then begin the normal boot up process.

    12. Have the customer sign back into their MOTOBLUR account or Register a new  account.

       

    Wipe cache partition to clear system memory

    To clear the system cache to reset the phone, follow these steps:

     

    1. Turn off the phone.
      Note: If the phone will not power down, remove the battery and reinsert it.
    2. Press and hold the X key and Lock/Power key simultaneously.
    3. Continue to hold the X key until you see the phone go into recovery mode.
    4. Press the Lock/Power key to access the Android System Recovery Utility screen.
    5. Use the Volume Down key, Left Arrow key, or the Backtrack key to highlight Wipe Cache Partition.
    6. Press the Return key to select Wipe Cache Partition.
    7. Once complete, you will be returned to the Android System Recovery Utility screen.
    8. Select Reboot System Now?.
    9. The phone will restart.

     

    Soft Reset

    How to perform a soft reset

     

    A soft reset clears and shuts down all active programs. This can help when the phone is running slower than normal or not performing properly. To perform a soft reset, follow these steps:

     

    1. Save any files that are open.
    2. Press and hold the Power key to turn off the phone.
    3. Press and hold the Power key again to turn on the phone.

    To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.

    5. Tap Change SIM PIN.
    6. Enter the old PIN.
      Note: The default PIN is 1234.
    7. Tap OK.
    8. Enter a new PIN.
    9. Tap OK.
    10. Enter a new PIN again.
    11. Tap OK.

    How to turn on or turn off the security lock

     

    Security lock causes the phone to lock when you turn it off. When you turn the phone back on, you must enter a password. To turn on or turn off the security lock, follow these steps:

     

    To lock

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Location & security.
    4. Tap Security lock.
    5. Tap Security lock type.
    6. Tap one of the following options:
    • Pattern lock
      1. Tap Next.
      2. Tap Next.
      3. Touch and slide to draw an unlock pattern.
      4. Tap Continue.
      5. Touch and slide to re-draw the unlock pattern.
      6. Tap Confirm.
    • Passcode lock
      1. Enter a passcode.
      2. Tap the Check mark icon.
      3. Re-enter the passcode.
      4. Tap the Check mark icon.

     

    To unlock

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Location & security.
    4. Tap Security lock.
    5. Tap Security lock type.
    6. Scroll to and tap None.
    7. Enter the current passcode and tap the Check mark icon Or touch and slide the unlock pattern.

     

     

    Lock - Screen lock

    How to turn on or turn off the screen lock

     

    The screen lock displays a screen over the Home screen to prevent accidental touches.

     

    To turn the screen lock on or off, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Location & security.
    4. Tap Screen lock to check (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.

     

    Lock - SIM card lock

    How to turn on or turn off the SIM PIN code

     

    The SIM PIN code is used to protect the SIM from being used in other phones. When you enable the SIM PIN code, the phone prompts you to enter the code after turning it on. To turn on or turn off the SIM card lock, follow these steps:

     

    To lock

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Location & security.
    4. Tap Set up SIM card lock.
    5. Tap Lock SIM card to select the check box.
    6. Enter the SIM PIN.
      Note: The default PIN is 1234.
    7. Tap OK.

     

     

    To unlock

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Location & security.
    4. Touch and slide the menu upward.
    5. Tap Set up SIM card lock.
    6. Tap Lock SIM card to clear the check box.
    7. Enter the SIM PIN.
      Note: The default PIN is 1234.
    8. Tap OK.

     

    Unblock - PIN (PUK Code)

    How to enter a PUK code

    If you enter the PIN code incorrectly several times in a row, the phone blocks you from attempting again. To enter a PUK code and unblock the PIN, follow these steps:

     

    Important: You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong code can permanently damage your SIM card.

     

    1. Contact T-Mobile to request your PUK code.
    2. Tap PUK Unlock.
    3. Enter the PUK code.
    4. Tap Continue.
    5. Enter a new SIM PIN.
    6. Tap Continue.
    7. Enter the new PIN again to confirm.

     

    Unblock - SIM (Mobile Device unlock)

    How to enter a Mobile Device unlock code

     

    Related errors:

     

    • 'Enter Special Code'
    • 'Please Wait to Enter Special Code'

     

    The Mobile Device unlock code allows the phone to use a SIM card from another wireless carrier. To enter the Mobile Device unlock code, follow these steps:

     

    Important: Stop if you receive an error message while performing the instructions below. The phone locks permanently if you enter the incorrect code multiple times.

     

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Verify the IMEI by entering *#06#.
    3. Submit a new request.
    4. Turn on the phone with the blocked SIM.
      The phone displays a screen to enter the unblock code.
    5. Enter the unblock code.
    6. Tap Unblock.

    How to set the alarm clock

     

    To set the alarm clock, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Applications  icon.
    2. Tap Alarm & timer.
    3. Tap the first alarm.
    4. Tap Turn on Alarm to select (turn on) the check box.
    5. Tap Name.
    6. Enter a name for the alarm, if desired.
    7. Tap OK.
    8. Tap Time.
    9. Tap the + or icons set the time.
    10. Tap AM or PM.
    11. Tap Set.
    12. Tap Sound.
    13. Tap one of the following options:
    • Ringtones
      1. Tap the desire ringtone.
      2. Tap OK.
    • MP3
      1. Tap the desired MP3.
      2. Tap OK.
    • Video
      1. Tap the desired video.
      2. Tap OK.
    • Vibrate only.
      1. Tap Vibrate to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.

    Auto-update (NITZ)

    How to turn on or turn off automatic update of time and date (NITZ).

     

    Automatic update of time and date (NITZ) checks for the correct time while the phone turns on. To turn on or turn off NITZ, follow these steps:

     

    Note: When you enter a different time zone and turn on your phone, it automatically updates to the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Date & time.
    4. Tap Automatic to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.
