Wi-Fi Calling

Wi-Fi Calling can improve your coverage and allows you to make phone calls and send messages over an available Wi-Fi network. Unless your rate plan provides otherwise, Wi-Fi Calling minutes count the same as T-Mobile cellular calling minutes on your phone bill.

To use Wi-Fi Calling, you must first turn on Wi-Fi and then connect to a Wi-Fi network.

When the Wi-Fi Calling feature is enabled, your phone displays a icon1.bmpicon on your Home screen status bar. After turning on Wi-Fi Calling, Wi-Fi calls will fail until the icon1.bmpicon appears.

Calls are not handed off between Wi-Fi and cellular, so calls drop as you leave the Wi-Fi range or cellular service area. To stay on a Wi-Fi call, you must remain within range of the Wi-Fi network. Your phone makes an audible beep and shows an on-screen message warning you that a call will drop.

Wi-Fi Calling offers four connection options:

  • Mobile Network Only All calls are made over the cellular network. If the cellular network is not available, your calls will not connect.

  • Mobile Network Preferred: All calls are made over the cellular network with Wi-Fi calling available as a backup when the cellular network is not available.

  • Wi-Fi Calling Only: All calls are made over a Wi-Fi network. If there are no Wi-Fi networks available, your calls will not connect.

  • Wi-Fi Calling Preferred: All calls are made over an available Wi-Fi network with the cellular network available as a backup when there are no Wi-Fi networks available.

Turn on Wi-Fi

To use Wi-Fi Calling, Wi-Fi must be turned on and your phone must be connected to a Wi-Fi network.

  7. If required, enter the requested security information.
