Call basics

Answer call

 

To answer a call, follow this step:

 

  1. Press the Send key.

 

Reject incoming call

 

To reject incoming calls, follow this step:

 

  1. Press the End/Power key.

 

Block incoming call – Not Supported

Dial

 

To make a call, follow these steps:

 

Use the keyboard

  1. Press the Send key.
  2. Enter a phone number or contact name.
  3. Press the Send key.

 

Use the phone book

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Tap the Contacts tab.
  3. Scroll to and tap the contact you want to call.

 

Use speed dial

From the Home screen, press and hold the assigned Speed Dial key.

 

End call

 

  1. To end a call, press the End/Power key.

 

Hold call

 

To use hold during a call, follow these steps:

 

Hold

  1. While on a call, tap Hold.

 

Unhold

  1. While on a held call, tap Resume.

 

Mute and un-mute call

 

To use mute during a call, follow these steps:

 

Turn on

  1. While on a call, tap Mute.

 

Turn off

  1. While on a muted call, tap Mute Off.

 

Mute incoming ring

 

To mute an incoming call's ring, press the Up Volume, Down Volume, or Mute keys.

 

Use speakerphone

 

To turn the speakerphone on or off, follow these steps:

 

Turn on

  1. While on a call, tap Speaker.

 

Turn off

  1. While on a call with speakerphone enabled, tap Handset.

Caller ID

Incoming ID – Turn on /off – Not Supported

 

Incoming caller ID shows information about incoming calls on the display screen. It automatically shows the caller's name and phone number if the contact is in the phone book. When the information is not in the phone book, it only displays the caller's number. You cannot disable this feature on this phone.

 

Outgoing ID – Enable

 

To enable outgoing caller ID so people you call can see your number, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and tap Options.
  4. Tap In-call Settings.
  5. Tap the Restrict My Identity drop-down menu.
  6. Tap Never or Network Determined.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Select Save.

 

Outgoing ID – Restrict

 

To restrict outgoing caller ID so people you call cannot see your number, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and tap Options.
  4. Tap In-call Settings.
  5. Tap the Restrict My Identity drop-down menu.
  6. Tap Always.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Select Save.

 

Picture ID – Set

 

You can assign picture ID to contacts stored in the phone book, but not to those stored on the SIM card.

 

To assign a picture to a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to and tap the Contacts icon.
  3. Touch and hold the desired contact.
  4. Tap Edit.
  5. Press the Menu key.
  6. Tap Add Picture.
  7. Navigate to and select the picture or avatar you want to use.
  8. If desired, move the crop box to select the area of the picture you want to use.
  9. Press the Menu key.
  10. Select Save or select Crop & Save.

 

Ringer ID – Set

 

You can assign ringer ID to contacts stored in the phone book, but not to those stored on the SIM card.

 

To assign a ringer to a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Tap Sounds and Ring Tones.
  4. Tap Sounds for Contacts.
  5. Tap Add Contact Alert.
  6. Enter a name for your new contact alert.
  7. Enter the name of the desired contact.
  8. Tap Phone.
  9. Tap the Ring Tone drop-down menu.
  10. Tap the ringtone you want to use.
  11. Press the Menu key.
  12. Select Save.

Call forwarding

Cancel call forwarding

 

To turn off or cancel all call forwarding (including voicemail forwarding), follow these steps:

 

Note: When call forwarding is canceled from the handset, the default voicemail forwarding is activated on the network. To cancel all user-determined call forwarding settings and revert back to normal conditional voicemail forwarding, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Options.
  4. Tap Call Forwarding.
  5. Tap Forward Calls.
  6. Tap Never in the drop-down menu.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Select Save.

 

Forward all calls (unconditional forwarding)

 

To activate unconditional call forwarding, follow these steps:

 

Note: Call Forwarding Unconditional (CFU) immediately forwards all calls to another phone number without allowing your phone to ring.

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Options.
  4. Tap Call Forwarding.
  5. Tap Forward Calls.
  6. In the drop-down menu, tap Always.
  7. Tap Forward All Calls.
  8. Select one of the following options:   
    • +18056377249 to forward calls to voicemail
    • New Number to forward calls to a different number
      1. Scroll to and tap a contact or enter a new number.
  9. Press the Menu key.
  10. Select Save.

 

Forward some calls (conditional forwarding)

 

To activate conditional call forwarding, follow these steps:

 

Note: Call Forwarding Conditional (CFC) forwards incoming calls to another phone number if you do not or cannot answer them (no reply, busy, unavailable).

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Options.
  4. Tap Call Forwarding.
  5. Tap Forward Calls.
  6. In the drop-down menu, tap Conditional.
  7. Tap If Busy.
  8. In the drop-down menu, tap Do Not Forward or the desired forwarding number.
  9. Tap If No Reply.
  10. In the drop-down menu, tap Do Not Forward or the desired forwarding number.
  11. Tap If Not Reachable.
  12. In the drop-down menu, tap Do Not Forward or the desired forwarding number.
  13. Press the Menu key.
  14. Select Save.

 

Forward calls to voicemail (conditional forwarding)

 

To turn on voicemail forwarding, follow these steps:

 

Voicemail forwarding forwards incoming calls to your voicemail so that callers can leave a message.

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Options.
  4. Tap Call Forwarding.
  5. Tap Forward Calls.
  6. In the drop-down menu, tap Conditional.
  7. Tap If Busy.
  8. In the drop-down menu, tap +18056377249.
  9. Tap If No Reply.
  10. In the drop-down menu, tap +18056377249.
  11. Tap If Not Reachable.
  12. In the drop-down menu, tap +18056377249.
  13. Press the Menu key.
  14. Select Save

Call settings

DTMF tones

 

Dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones are used to communicate with automated systems that require you to type a number such as a code, password, or credit card number. While your phone can use DTMF tones (touch tones), there is no setting to turn them on or off.

 

We’re sorry, but changing DTMF tones is not available on your device.

 

Fixed dialing

 

T-Mobile does not support fixed dialing.

 

To disable fixed dialing if you have enabled it, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Options.
  4. Scroll to and tap FDN Phone List.
  5. Press the Menu key.
  6. Scroll to and select Disable FDN Mode.
  7. Enter the PIN2 code.
    Note: The default PIN2 code is 5678.
  8. Press the Trackpad.

 

Phone line selection – Not supported

 

T-Mobile only supports 'line 1'.

Volume – Call

 

To raise or lower the volume of the earpiece while on a call, press the Up Volume or Down Volume keys.

 

Volume – Ring

 

To raise or lower the ringtone volume, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Optionsicon.
  3. Tap Sounds and Ring Tones.
  4. Tap Phone Ring Tone.
  5. Tap Volume.
  6. Select a volume level from 1 through 10 or select Silent.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Select Save.

Call timer

Reset timer

 

Call timers approximate the amount of time you have spent on phone calls. They do not accurately show how much time T-Mobile bills. T-Mobile charges for connected calls and rounds up to the nearest minute. Call timers count all calls in seconds, regardless of whether or not they connect.

 

To reset call timers, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Status.
  4. Tap Last Call or Total Calls.
  5. Tap one of the following options: 
    • Clear Timer: Resets time in “Last Call”
    • Clear All Timers: Resets time in “Total Calls”
  6. Press the Menu key.
  7. Select Save.

 

View timer

Call waiting

Turn on / off

 

To turn call waiting on or off, follow these steps:

 

Note: While on a call, call waiting alerts you of new incoming calls and allows you to answer them without ending the active call.

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Options.
  4. Tap Call Waiting.
  5. Tap Enabled to check (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.
  6. Press the Menu key.
  7. Select Save.

 

Use

 

While on a call, call waiting alerts you of new incoming calls and allows you to answer them without ending the active call.

 

To use call waiting when you hear the tone alerting you to a new incoming call, follow these steps:

 

  1. While receiving a second incoming call, tap to select one of the following options:
    • Answer - Hold Current—Places the current call on hold and answers the incoming call.
    • Answer - Drop Current—Ends the current call and answers the incoming call.
    • Ignore—Rejects the incoming call.
  2. To switch which caller is on hold, tap Swap.
  3. To create a conference call, tap Join.

Conference calling

Have private conversation

 

To speak privately with one caller in a conference call and put the other callers on hold, follow these steps:

 

  1. During a conference call, scroll to and touch and hold the caller with whom you want to have a private conversation.
  2. Tap Split Call.

 

OR

 

  1. During a conference call, press the Menu key.
  2. Scroll to and select Split Call.
  3. Scroll to and tap the caller with whom you want to have a private conversation.

 

Start conference call

 

Place the first call before using call conferencing. To add additional callers to the conference, follow these steps:

 

  1. During a call, press the Menu key.
  2. Scroll to and select New Call.
  3. Perform one of the following actions: 
    • To call a number in the call log:
      1. Scroll to and tap a phone number in the call log.
    • To enter a new number:
      1. Enter the phone number.
      2. Press the Send key or press the Trackpad.
    • To call a phone book contact:
      1. Press the Menu key.
      2. Select Call From Contacts.
      3. Scroll to and tap the desired contact.
  4. When all calls are connected, tap Join.

Voice commands

Assign a voice name to a contact – Not supported

 

Assigning a voice name to a contact is not necessary and not supported. When you say the name of a contact, your phone automatically scans your phone book for a match.

 

Dial using voice name

To use voice-activated dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

Note: You cannot make calls to emergency numbers using voice commands.

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Applications folder icon.
  3. Tap the Voice Dialing icon.
  4. Say Call and then immediately say the name of a contact or a phone number.
  5. The device may provide you with several possible matches.
  6. Say Yes to the name of the contact you want to call.

Voicemail

Call voicemail – Before Visual Voice Mail is enabled

 

To retrieve voicemail messages, follow these steps:

 

Using dialing shortcuts

  1. From the Home screen, press and hold 1 to call voicemail.

 

OR

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press and hold 1 to call voicemail.

 

Using the phone menu

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Call Voice Mail.

 

Call voicemail – After Visual Voice Mail is enabled

 

Once you set up Visual Voice Mail on your phone, Visual Voice Mail becomes the default method of retrieving your voicemail messages. To retrieve voicemail messages by calling voicemail (not via Visual Voice Mail), follow these steps:

 

Using dialing shortcuts

 

  1. From the Home screen, press and hold 1 to open Visual Voice Mail.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Call Voice Mail.

 

OR

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press and hold 1 to to open Visual Voice Mail.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Call Voice Mail.

 

Using the phone menu

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Show Visual Voice Mail.
  4. Press the Menu key.
  5. Scroll to and select Call Voice Mail.

 

Using Visual Voice Mail

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Call Voice Mail.

 

Set voicemail number

 

Although you can change the service access number for voicemail in your phone, you will not be able to access your voicemail if you use a number other than 1-805-637-7243.

 

To re-set the voicemail service access number on your phone if it has been changed, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Scroll to and select Options.
  4. Tap Voice Mail.
  5. Tap Access Number and use the keyboard to change the number to +18056377243.

 

Visual Voicemail – Access

 

To access Visual Voicemail, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.

 

OR

 

  1. Press and hold the W/1 key on the physical keyboard.

 

Visual Voicemail – Add contact

 

To add a contact from a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Scroll to the desired message.
  4. Press the Menu key.
  5. Scroll to and select Add to Contacts.
  6. Select one of the following options: 
    • Create New Contact
      1. Enter additional information
      2. If necessary, edit the new information.
    • Add to Existing Contact
      1. Scroll to and select the desired contact.
      2. If necessary, edit the new information.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Select Save.

 

Visual Voicemail – Change greeting

 

To change the Visual Voicemail greeting, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Options.
  5. Tap Set Greeting.
  6. Tap Choose Type.
  7. Select one of the following options:     
    • Standard – The system plays your phone number as the voicemail greeting.
      1. Tap Save.
    • Personal – The system plays your message as the voicemail greeting.
      1. Tap the Record icon to begin recording.
      2. Say your greeting message.
      3. When finished, tap the Pause icon to stop recording.
      4. Tap the Save icon.
      5. Tap Save.
    • Name – The system plays your name as the voicemail greeting.
      1. Tap the Record icon to begin recording.
      2. Say your name.
      3. When finished, tap the Pause icon to stop recording.
      4. Tap the Save icon.
      5. Tap Save.

 

Visual Voicemail – Change password

 

To change the Visual Voicemail password, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Options.
  5. Tap Set Password.
  6. Enter the current password.
    Note: The default password is 1234.
  7. Enter the new password.
  8. Enter the new password again.
  9. Tap OK.

 

Visual Voicemail – Delete voicemail

 

To delete a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Scroll to and touch and hold the desired message.
  4. Tap Delete.
  5. Tap Delete again.

 

Visual Voicemail – Listen to new message

 

To listen to a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

 

Note: When you receive a new voicemail message, a pop-up alert appears on your phone and a voicemail icon appears in your Notification bar near the top of your Home screen.

 

Listen to new message

 

  1. In the pop-up alert, tap Play.

 

OR

 

  1. Tap the Notification bar where the voicemail icon appears, near the top of your Home screen.
  2. Tap Visual Voice Mail.
  3. Tap the message you want to listen to.

 

Listen to previous message

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Scroll to and touch and hold the desired message.
  4. Tap Play.

 

OR

 

  1. Press and hold the W/1 key on the physical keyboard.
  2. Scroll to and touch and hold the desired message.
  3. Tap Play.

 

Visual Voicemail – Reply

 

To reply to a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Scroll to and touch and hold the desired message.
  4. Tap Reply As.
  5. Select one of the following options: 
    • Email
      1. Enter the text of your message.
      2. Press the Menu key.
      3. Select Send.
    • Text Message
      1. Enter the text of your message.
      2. Press the Menu key.
      3. Select Send.
    • PIN
      Note: PIN messages can only be sent to contacts with BlackBerry devices.
      1. Enter the recipient in the To: field.
      2. Enter the text of your message.
      3. Press the Menu key.
      4. Select Send.

 

Visual Voicemail – Save

 

To save a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Scroll to and touch and hold the desired message.
  4. Tap Save.

 

OR

 

  1. Tap Save As….
  2. If desired, edit the file name using the keyboard.
  3. If desired, change where the file will be saved: On Media Card or On Device.
  4. Tap Save.

 

Visual Voicemail – Set up

 

To set up Visual Voicemail, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Tap Yes to activate Visual Voice Mail.
  4. Read the License Agreement.
  5. Tap I Accept.
  6. Tap Next.
  7. Scroll to and select one of the following options:
    • Standard Greeting
    • Personal Greeting
    • Name
  8. If necessary, tap the Record icon to begin recording.
  9. When finished, tap the Pause icon to stop recording.
  10. Tap the Save icon.
  11. Tap Save.
  12. Scroll to and select Next.

 

Visual Voicemail – Synchronize

 

To manually synchronize Visual Voicemail messages (new messages are downloaded and deleted messages are removed), follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Reconcile Now.

 

Visual Voicemail – Turn on / turn off

 

To turn Visual Voicemail on or off, follow these steps:

 

Turn on

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Tap Yes to activate Visual Voice Mail.
  4. If prompted, read the License Agreement and tap I Accept.

 

Turn off

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Options.
  5. Tap Deactivate to turn off Visual Voicemail.
  6. Tap Deactivate again or tap Save and Deactivate.

 

Visual Voicemail – Turn on / off roaming

 

To turn Visual Voicemail roaming on or off, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Visual Voice Mail icon.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Options.
  5. Tap Allow Data Connection While Roaming to enable (turn on) or disable (turn off) the check box.
