Text message contact name missing: HTC Sensation 4G

The contact name may be missing from the inbox and only display the phone number.

 

Possible causes

 

  • Cache is outdated or has a conflict
  • MobileLife Contacts
  • Contacts do not match

 

Resolution Steps

 

  1. Clear the messaging cache:
    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Applications.
    4. Tap Manage Applications.
    5. Tap All.
    6. Tap Messages / Messaging.
    7. Tap Clear cache and Clear data is available.
  2. Delete all text messages (SMS):
    1. From the Messages app, touch and hold each message thread.
    2. Touch Delete.
    3. Touch OK.
  3. Open Contacts, and check that the contacts that have been having problems show all 10 digits of the phone number.
    Note: The contact sync may fail with only seven (7) digits of the full phone number.
  4. Remove the battery.
  5. Re-insert the battery and turn on the device.
  6. Open the Messages app to test.
  7. If the problem continues, sync MobileLife Contacts and Google:
    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Accoutns & sync.
    4. Tap MobileLife Contacts or the Google account where contacts are stored.
    5. Tap Sync now.
    6. Wait for the sync to finish.
  8. If the problem continues, download a non-T-Mobile SMS app like Handcent to display SMS with names.
