Reloading device software using loader.exe when the Desktop Software fails: BlackBerry

The following steps assume that you already have the BlackBerry device software and BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed. To reload the software when Desktop Manager does not detect the device, follow these steps:

 

Summary:

  • Navigate to the following location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
  • Open the loader.exe file

 

Steps:

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Open Local Disk (C:).

  3. Open Program Files.

  4. Open Common Files.
    3.jpg
  5. Open Research In Motion.
    4.jpg
  6. Open AppLoader.
    5.jpg
  7. Open Loader.exe.

    • The Application Loader Wizard will appear.

  8. Click Next.
  9. Connect the BlackBerry to the computer using a USB cable.
    • If you see USB-PIN then the BlackBerry handheld was successfully detected. This may take a few minutes.
    • It is not necessary to check the box next to Detect communication port.

  10. Enter the device password if necessary, then click Next.
  11. In the Device Application Selection screen click Next.

  12. Click Advanced.

  13. Checkmark both Delete all application data and Delete all currently installed applications.
    • WARNING: All third party applications on the BlackBerry handheld will be permanently deleted.

  14. Click Next.
  15. If you suspect that there is corrupt data on the device you can change the option to Do not automatically back up and restore the device application during the loading process.
    • WARNING: If you do not allow the Loader.exe to automatically backup the device ALL DATA WILL BE PERMANENTLY LOST.

  16. Click Next.
  17. Click Finish.

  18. Wait for the software reload to complete.
