Beginning June 19 after 5 p.m. PST the Samsung Galaxy S 5 will have a software update to Android 4.4.2/Baseband G900TUVU1BNF6 that turn on VoLTE services via OTA over Wi-Fi in available VoLTE markets only. For devices not in VoLTE markets, the update will be available via Kies starting June 20. VoLTE capabilities are limited to markets that have had VoLTE  turned on.This update provides features and improvements:

Check the software version

To check the current software version, follow these steps:


  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. On the General tab, tap About device.
  3. Read the Baseband version on the phone, and check it below:

If the update fails, contact Customer care.

Other versions

Your phone has non-T-Mobile software, and it is unsupported. The manufacturer and T-Mobile cannot update your software.



Requirements to update

To be able to update to the current software version, the below requirements must be met:

  • 50% or higher battery life
  • Data connection
  • File size of update: 35 MB

Update software from the phone

To check for updates and download the update from the Samsung servers, follow these steps:

Note: You must be connected to Wi-Fi prior to completing the following.


  1. From the home screen, tap Settings
  2. Tab the General tab.
  3. Tap About device.
  4. Tap Software update.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Tap Start.
  7. A restart message will appear, tap OK.



Update software from a computer

To download updates for your phone and install them using a computer, follow these steps:


Installing Kies

  1. Download the most recent version of Kies by visiting (Select the SAMSUNG Kies version compatible with the PC)
  2. Double click the Kies file. The program will self extract, no action is required
  3. Select the desired Language and Location, then click Next.
  4. Read the license agreement, check the box for "I accept..." and click Next.
  5. Kies will begin the installation. No action is required.
  6. When the process is complete, click Finish.


Prepare the Samsung Galaxy S 5

  1. From the home screen, tap Settings
  2. Tab the General tab.
  3. Tap Developer options, if available. If not available, skip to step 8.
  4. Tap Ok
  5. Tap USB Debugging
  6. Tap the Home key to exit the settings menu.
  7. Insert the USB data cable into the phone and then into an available port on the computer.
  8. Select Media device(MTP) at the phone prompt. The PC should recognize several devices and begin installation. This is normal and may take a few minutes. Unplug the data cable when completed.


Update the Samsung Galaxy S 5

  1. Open the Samsung Kies application.
  2. Allow the application to detect the device and display an available update notification.
  3. Follow the on screen prompts to complete the update.
          Note: Using Samsung Kies to update the device software is support by Samsung. If there are any questions about the update process via Kies, escalate to Samsung for further assistance.
