Accessing files


On a card using the computer

To view files on a card using a computer, perform the following steps:
1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
2. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application.
3. Click the Media icon.
4. Under Media Manager, click Launch.
5. Under My Devices, click BlackBerry 8520 PIN [Your device PIN] [Media Card].
6. Browse to the file you want to access.

On a card using the phone

To view files on a card using the phone, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to and select the Media icon.
3. Scroll to and select the Pictures icon.
4. Scroll to and select Picture Folders.
NOTE: The visible pictures are in the Media Card/BlackBerry/pictures folder.

Deleting files


On a card using the computer

To delete files on a card using a computer, perform the following steps:
1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
2. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application.
3. Click the Media icon.
4. Under Media Manager, click Launch.
5. Under My Devices, click BlackBerry 8520 PIN [Your device PIN] [Media Card].
6. Click the file you want to delete.
7. Press the Delete key on the computer keyboard.
8. Click Yes.

On a card using the phone

To delete files on a card using the phone, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to and select the Media icon.
3. Scroll to and select the Pictures icon.
4. Scroll to and select Picture Folders.
NOTE: The visible pictures are in the Media Card/BlackBerry/pictures folder.
5. Scroll to the picture you want to delete.
6. Press the Menu key.
7. Scroll to and select Delete.
8. Scroll to and select Delete to confirm.

Inserting or removing a card


Inserting a card

To insert a card, perform the following steps:
1. Lift and remove the back cover from the device.

2. Insert the memory card into the memory card slot with the gold contacts on the card facing down.

3. Push the card all the way into the slot.
4. Insert the tabs on the back cover into the device and snap into place.

Removing a card

To remove a card, perform the following steps:
1. Lift and remove the back cover from the device.
2. Pull the memory card from the memory card slot.
3. Insert the tabs on the back cover into the device and snap into place.

Moving files


Moving files from the card to the computer

To move files from the card to the computer, perform the following steps:
1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
2. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application.
3. Click the Media icon.
4. Under Media Manager, click Launch.
5. In the top part of the window, browse to the folder where you want to save the file.
6. Under My Devices, click BlackBerry 8520 PIN [Your device PIN] [Media Card].
7. Click on the file you want to copy.
8. Click Copy Up.
9. Click OK.

Moving files from the card to the phone

To move files from the card to the phone, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to and select the Media icon.
3. Scroll to and select the Pictures icon.
4. Scroll to and select Picture Folders.
5. Scroll to the picture you want to move.
6. Press the Menu key.
7. Scroll to and select Move.
8. Browse to the Device Memory folder.
9. Press the Menu key.
10. Scroll to and select Move here.

Moving files from the computer to the card

To move files from the computer to the card, perform the following steps:
1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
2. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application.
3. Click the Media icon.
4. Under Media Manager, click Launch.
5. Under My Devices, click BlackBerry 8520 PIN [Your device PIN] [Media Card].
6. Browse to the folder where you want to save the file.
7. In the top part of the window, browse to the file that you want to move.
8. Click Copy Down.
NOTE: The Copy Files window appears.
9. Select on of the following methods to copy the files to your device:
  • Convert for optimal playback: To automatically convert the files to the optimal format and size for your device.
  • Copy with no conversion: To copy the files with the existing format and size.
  • Advanced conversion options: To select a destination format and size.
10. Click OK.

Moving files from the phone to the card

To move files from the phone to the card, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to and select the Media icon.
3. Scroll to and select the Pictures icon.
4. Scroll to and select Picture Folders.
5. Scroll to and select Device Memory.
6. Scroll to the file that you want to move.
7. Press the Menu key.
8. Scroll to and select Move.
9. Browse to the top of the file structure.
NOTE: This is the Media Card\BlackBerry\pictures folder.
10. Press the Menu key.
11. Scroll to and select Move here.

Setting the default memory location

To set the default memory location, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to and select the Camera icon.
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Scroll to and select Options.
5. Scroll to and select Store Pictures.
7. Press the Menu key.
8. Scroll to and select Save.

Viewing memory

To view the memory card memory, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to and select the Settings icon.
3. Scroll to and select the Options icon.
4. Scroll to and select Memory.
5. Scroll to Media Card to view Total Space and Free Space.
