
Using ActiveSync (T-Mobile Shadow with HotSpot Enabled)

Copying files from the computer to the memory card or phone
To copy files from the computer to the memory card or phone, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Connect a USB cable from the device to the computer. |
| 2. | Open the ActiveSync program on your computer, select Explore. |
| 3. | On your computer, locate the file that you want to copy to the phone. |
| 4. | Right-click the file, and then select Copy. |
| 5. | Navigate to the folder on your phone and right-click the mouse, and then select Paste. |

Copying music files and assigning as a ringtone
NOTE: You can copy music to the My Ringtones folder and pictures to the My Pictures folder on the phone and then set music files (MP3 for example) as ringtones and pictures as wallpapers.
IMPORTANT: If you copy music files to the My Music folder and want to set music as a ringtone, then you must first copy the file to the My Ringtones folder and then assign it as a ringtone.
To copy music files and assign as a ringtone, perform the following steps:
| 1. | At the the Home screen, select Start. |
| 2. | Scroll to and select Applications. |
| 3. | Scroll to and select File Explorer. |
| 4. | Scroll to and select My Music. |
| 5. | Highlight the music file that will be used as a ringtone (do not open the file) and select Menu, Edit, and then Copy. |
| 7. | Scroll to and select My Documents. |
| 8. | Scroll to and select My Ringtones. |
| 9. | Select Menu, Edit, and then Paste. |
| 10. | Press the red End key to go back to the Home screen. |
| 11. | At the Home screen, select Start. |
| 12. | Scroll to and select Settings. |
| 13. | Scroll to and select Sounds. |
| 14. | At Ring tone, press the Center Select key. |
| 15. | Scroll to the file and select Done. |
| 16. | Select Done, and then Done again to get back to the Menu screen. |

Copying files from the phone to the computer
NOTE: Backing up a file on your computer creates two separate versions of that file. Changes made to one file will not be reflected in the other.
To copy files from the phone to the computer, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Connect a USB cable from the device to the computer. You will receive an audio alert when a connection is established. |
| 2. | In ActiveSync on your computer, select Explore to open the Mobile Phone folder. |
| 3. | Perform one of the following options: |
- To copy a file to different folder on your phone, right-click on the file, and then select Copy. Right-click on the folder you want to move it to under Mobile Phone, and then select Paste.
- To copy a file to your personal computer, right-click on the file, and then select Copy. Right-click the folder on your personal computer, and then select Paste.

Synchronizing using the USB cable setup
You can synchronize e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks directly with your computer by connecting your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Before you can synchronize using the USB cable, you must first install Microsoft® ActiveSync 4.5 or higher on your computer.
NOTE: Windows® Vista™ users can install the application Windows Mobile Device Center instead of Microsoft® ActiveSync.
ActiveSync is a synchronization program that allows you to:
- Synchronize your e-mail, calendar, tasks, contacts, and Internet Explorer® favorites
- Copy files between your phone and your computer
- Install applications on your phone
- Back up and restore phone information

Installing Microsoft® ActiveSync
NOTE: The CD that comes with your phone contains the Microsoft® ActiveSync software.
To install Microsoft® ActiveSync, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive in your computer. |
| 2. | Follow the instructions on the CD to install ActiveSync and Microsoft® Outlook if you do not already have it installed on your computer. |

Connecting the device to the computer
To connect the device to the computer, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Connect a USB cable from the device to the computer. |
| 2. | ActiveSync on your computer will automatically detect your phone and launch the setup wizard. |
| 5. | Enter your server address, user name, password, and domain. |
| 7. | Place a check in the check box next to the data that you want to synchronize. |
| 9. | Place a check in the check box to allow wireless data connections while connected to your computer using the USB cable. |
| 11. | Select Finish. ActiveSync launches and begins to synchronize your data. |
| 12. | If prompted, select to combine or replace the data on your phone with the data in Outlook and then select OK. |

Synchronizing using the wireless setup
To wirelessly synchronize data (without connecting your phone to your computer), you must have Microsoft® Exchange Server 2003. The server must be set up for wireless synchronization.
IMPORTANT: To use all available wireless functions you must have Exchange Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 installed.
E-mail deleted from your Outlook e-mail account using your phone is also deleted from your Inbox on the Exchange Server. To locate deleted messages, view the Deleted Items folder in Outlook on your computer.
NOTE: You will need the server address, username, password, and domain name from your system administrator.
To synchronize using the wireless setup, perform the following steps:
| 1. | At the Home screen, select Start. |
| 2. | Scroll to and select Applications. |
| 4. | Select set up your device to sync with it. |
| 5. | At Email address, enter your e-mail address and select Next. |
| 6. | Enter your username, password, and domain name and select Next. |
NOTE: Your phone will attempt to automatically detect your server settings. If it fails, continue with step 7. If it succeeds, skip to step 10.
| 7. | At Server address, enter your server address. |
| 8. | Place or remove the check in the check box next to This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection and then select Next. |
| 9. | Place a check in the check box next to the items that you want to synchronize. |
