Enable or disable security (T-Mobile wireless router by Linksys)
Your wireless router supports WEP, WPA Personal (TKIP), and WPA2 Personal (AES). You can enable security by using the Get Security Key feature. You can also enable security manually. When security is enabled, all wireless devices using the router will need the key or the passphrase.
 | On the front of your router is the Get Security Key button, which has a key with magenta waves on it. The light on this button is the Get Security Key light. If this light is on and solid white, security is enabled. |

Using the Get Security Key feature
To acquire the security keys for a T-Mobile Wi-Fi compatible phone from a T-Mobile wireless router, select the Get Security Key option on the T-Mobile Wi-Fi enabled phone in the Wi-Fi menu.
To use the Get Security Key feature, perform the following steps:
| 1. | From the idle screen of the Wi-Fi enabled phone, select Menu. |
| 2. | Using the Navigation keys, scroll to and select Settings. |
| 3. | Scroll to and select Wi-Fi. |
| 4. | Scroll to and select Get Security Key. |
| 5. | Follow the onscreen prompts. You will be prompted to press the Get Security Key button on the front of your router. After you press this button, the Get Security Key light should flash amber. |
| 6. | On the phone, select Done/Next. The phone should indicate that it is securing the connection and should prompt you to create a unique profile name for the network. |
When security is enabled, the Get Security Key light is on and solid white.
TIPS for using the Get Security Key feature
- If you have not previously enabled security for your router, the default encryption is WPA Personal.
- If you already have a security key in the router, the router and the phone will use your current security settings. They will send the security settings to the T-Mobile Wi-Fi enabled phone.
- When security is enabled, the Get Security Key light will be on and solid white. When security is disabled, the Get Security Key light will be off.
Enabling WEP 64/128
To enable WEP, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Log in to the administrative Web site for the router. |
| 2. | From the row of links, click Wireless, and then click Wireless Security. |
| 3. | Within the Security Mode drop-down list, select WEP. Within the WEP Encryption drop-down list, select 64 bits or 128 bits. In the Key 1 box, type a unique key or within the Passphrase box, type a unique passphrase, and then click Generate. Hex characters, 0-9 and a-f, are used for the unique key. If you type your own unique key, use as many characters as the box allows. |
NOTE: The Wi-Fi enabled phones support only Key 1.
| 4. | Click Save Settings. |
| 5. | Click Continue. |
The Get Security Key light is on and solid white.
Enabling WPA Personal (TKIP)
To enable WPA Personal, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Log in to the administrative Web site for the router. |
| 2. | From the row of links, click Wireless, and then click Wireless Security. |
| 3. | Within the Security Mode drop-down list, select WPA Personal. Within the WPA Algorithms drop-down list, verify that TKIP is selected. Within the WPA Shared Key box, enter a unique passphrase. |
| 4. | Click Save Settings. |
| 5. | Click Continue. |
The Get Security Key light is on and solid white.
Enabling WPA2 Personal (AES)
To enable WPA2 Personal, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Log in to the administrative Web site for the router. |
| 2. | From the row of links, click Wireless, and then click Wireless Security. |
| 3. | Within the Security Mode drop-down list, select WPA2 Personal. Within the WPA Algorithms drop-down list, verify that AES is selected. Within the WPA Shared Key box, enter a unique passphrase. |
| 4. | Click Save Settings. |
| 5. | Click Continue. |
The Get Security Key light is on and solid white.
Disabling security
To disable security, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Log in to the administrative Web site for the router. |
| 2. | From the row of links, click Wireless, and then click Wireless Security. |
| 3. | Within the Security Mode drop-down list, select Disable. |
| 4. | Click Save Settings. |
| 5. | Click Continue. |
The Get Security Key light is off.
