Set up your wireless router manually (T-Mobile wireless router by D-Link)
The installation CD is recommended for setting up your new wireless router because it can detect your current configuration and guide you through the best installation.
To set up your wireless router manually, perform the following steps:
1. Verify that your computer is connected to the Internet and can access a Web page other than your home page.
2. Verify that the cable connecting your computer to the modem is an Ethernet cable. A USB cable will not work.
3. Determine which setup you have and which setup you want to have:

If you do not have a wireless router, install your new wireless router.

To install your new wireless router when you do not have a wireless router, perform the following steps:
1. Unplug the power cord from your modem.
2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer and connect it to the router’s gray Internet port.
3. Plug the power cord back into your modem.
4. Connect one end of the blue Ethernet cable that came with the router to any blue port (1-4) on the router, and then connect the other end to the Ethernet port on your computer.
5. Plug the router’s power adapter into the wall and into the router.
6. Verify that the power light, the Internet light, and the light for the appropriate blue port are lit on the router.
NOTE: If these lights are not lit, check the cables.
7. To verify that the router is connected to the Internet, open a Web browser and go to a page other than the default home page.
NOTE: If the Web page does not load, do one of the following:
  • Power cycle your network.
  • Clone the Media Access Control (MAC) address.

If you already have a wireless router, replace it with your new wireless router.

To replace your existing wireless router with your new wireless router, perform the following steps:
1. Unplug the power cord from your modem.
2. Locate the Ethernet cable that connects your old router to your computer.
3. Disconnect this Ethernet cable from your old router and connect it to any blue port (1-4) on your new router.
4. Locate the cable that connects your old router to your modem.
5. Disconnect this cable from your old router and connect it to the gray Internet port on your new router.
6. Plug the power cord back into your modem.
7. Plug your new router’s power adapter into the wall and into your new router.
8. Verify that the power light, the Internet light, and the light for the appropriate blue port are lit on the router.
NOTE: If these lights are not lit, check the cables.
9. To verify that the router is connected to the Internet, open a Web browser and go to a page other than the default home page.
NOTE: If the Web page does not load, do one of the following:
  • Power cycle your network.
  • Clone the Media Access Control (MAC) address.

If you already have a wireless router, add your new wireless router.

To add your new wireless router if you already have a wireless router, perform the following steps:
1. Locate the Ethernet cable that connects your old router to your computer.
2. Disconnect this Ethernet cable from your old router and connect it to any blue port (1-4) on your new router.
3. Connect one end of the blue Ethernet cable that came with your new router to the Internet port on your new router, and then connect the other end to any blue port (1-4) on your old router.
4. Plug your new router’s power adapter into the wall and into your new router.
5. Verify that the power light, the Internet light, and the light for the appropriate blue port are lit on the router.
NOTE: If these lights are not lit, check the cables.
6. To verify that the router is connected to the Internet, open a Web browser and go to a page other than the default home page.
NOTE: If the Web page does not load, do one of the following:
  • Power cycle your network.
  • Clone the Media Access Control (MAC) address.

If you are not sure if you already have a wireless router, install your new wireless router.

The modem from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may have a built in wireless router. These modems are often referred to as combo units. One way to tell if you have a combo unit is to see if your modem has an antenna. However, even if your modem does not have an antenna, it may still be a combo unit.
To install your new wireless router if you are not sure if you have a wireless router, perform the following steps:
1. Unplug the power cord from your modem.
2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer and connect it to your new router’s gray Internet port.
3. Plug the power cord back into your modem.
4. Connect one end of the blue Ethernet cable that came with your new router to any blue port (1-4) on your new router, and then connect the other end to the Ethernet port on your computer.
5. Plug your new router’s power adapter into the wall and into your new router.
6. Verify that the power light, the Internet light, and the light for the appropriate blue port are lit on the router.
NOTE: If these lights are not lit, check the cables.
7. To verify that the router is connected to the Internet, open a Web browser and go to a page other than the default home page.
NOTE: If the Web page does not load, do one of the following:
  • Power cycle your network.
