Playing music
NOTE: The memory card comes with four songs pre-loaded.
To play music, perform the following steps:
| 1. | At the main screen, select Menu. |
| 2. | Scroll to and select Music. |
| 3. | Press the Center Select key to play. |
Using the shortcut keys
 | - Play/Pause: Use this button to play or pause a song.
- Rewind and Fast Forward: To rewind the current track, press and hold the Rewind
button. To fast forward the current track, press and hold the Fast Forward button. Release the key at the position you want to continue. To skip to the next track, press the Fast Forward button. To skip to the beginning of the previous track, press the Rewind . - Volume: Use these keys to adjust the volume.
- End Key: Press this key to close the music player and continue music play back in the background. To stop the music player, press and hold the End key.

Playing music randomly
To play music randomly, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Open the Music Player. |
NOTE: To open the music player, go to
Playing music.
| 2. | Select Options and then select Play options. |
| 4. | Scroll to and select On. |

Downloading music
The Nokia 5300 comes with a Music Player that can play music tracks or other MP3, AAC, AAC+, and enhanced AAC+ sound files that you have legally downloaded from a music provider.
The number of songs that can be downloaded is dependent on the file size (less songs if the files are large), but it is possible to save up to 240 WMA songs and 160 MP3 songs on the pre-installed 1 GB memory card.
NOTE: Songs purchased from iTunes are not compatible with this phone.

Downloading music
To download music, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable that was included in the box. |
| 2. | On your phone, select OK and then select Data Storage. |
NOTE: Your phone is now connected to your computer as a mass storage memory device called Removable disk.
| 3. | On your computer, locate the songs and drag/drop them to the Removable Disk and then to the Music folder. |
| 4. | After your files transfer successfully, on your computer’s task bar, click Safely Remove Hardware. |
| 5. | Disconnect the USB cable. |
Downloading using Yahoo! Music Jukebox
NOTE: You can manage your favorite songs with Yahoo! Music Jukebox, which you can download FREE of charge. With this music player, you can:
- Play, rip, and burn MP3s and CDs
- Create and share music playlists
- Buy music downloads—over two million song catalog
NOTE: Yahoo! Music Jukebox is not compatible with Macs. Additional charges may apply.
To download the free version of Yahoo! Music Jukebox 2, perform the following steps:

| 3. | Below the Continue button, click the link to download a FREE version of the Yahoo! Music Jukebox. |
| 5. | Follow the installation instructions on the screen to download. |
Transferring music using Yahoo! Music Jukebox
NOTE: The phone will come with a Yahoo! download promotion insert.
To transfer music using Yahoo! Music Jukebox, perform the following steps:
| 1. | On your computer desktop, click the Yahoo! Music Jukebox icon to launch the player. |
| 2. | Sign in with your Yahoo! ID and password. |
NOTE: Go to
Yahoo! to sign up for an account if you are not already a member.
| 3. | Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. |
| 4. | On your phone, select OK and then select Music sync. |
NOTE: The MTP Media Player dialog box appears on your computer screen.
| 5. | At the MTP Media Player dialog box, select Add music to the device using Yahoo! Music Jukebox and click OK. |
NOTE: Your Nokia 5300 phone now appears under the Portable Devices category in the left hand column of the computer screen.
| 6. | Click Nokia 5300 - Memory card or Nokia 5300 - Phone memory on the left hand column. |
NOTE: Another dialog box appears with instructions to add music.
| 7. | Click OK to drag and drop playlists and individual tracks to the phone or click Synchronize. |
NOTE: When you click Synchronize, another dialog box opens allowing you to choose the settings. Select your settings and click Begin Transferring Tracks.
| 8. | Transfer your tracks and/or playlists. |
Updating the music library
NOTE: After you have downloaded music to your phone, you must update the music library to listen to your songs.
To update the music library, perform the following steps:
| 1. | At the main screen, select Menu. |
| 2. | Scroll to and select Music. |
| 3. | Select Options and then select Music library. |
| 4. | Select OK once the music library is updated. |

To use the phone to delete music files, perform the following steps:
| 1. | At the main screen, select Menu. |
| 2. | Scroll to and select Fun & Apps. |
| 3. | Scroll to and select Gallery. |
| 4. | Scroll to and select Memory card. |
| 5. | Scroll to and select Music. |
| 6. | Scroll to the file or folder. |
| 7. | Select Options and then select Delete folder. |
| 8. | Select Yes to confirm. |
Using the computer to delete music
To use the computer to delete music, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. |
| 2. | On your phone, select OK and then select Data storage. |
| 3. | On your computer, locate the files on the Removable Disk and then select the Music folder. |
| 4. | On your keyboard, press Delete. |

NOTE: You can add your songs to the My Favorites folder so you can quickly access them.

Searching music
To search music, perform the following steps:
| 1. | At the main screen, select Menu. |
| 2. | Scroll to and select Music. |
| 3. | Select Options and then select Music Library. |
| 4. | Select All tracks, Artists, Albums, Genres, Composers, or Track lists. |

Using media equalizer
NOTE: Use the media equalizer to improve music quality.
To use the media equalizer, perform the following steps:
| 1. | At the main screen, select Menu. |
| 2. | Scroll to and select Music. |
| 3. | Select Options and then select Media equalizer. |
| 4. | Scroll to Normal, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Classical, Set 1, or Set 2. |
