How do I synchronize with a computer using the USB cable? (T-Mobile Dash™)
NOTE: You can synchronize e-mail, calendar, and contacts directly with your computer, using Microsoft® Outlook, by connecting your device to the computer using the USB cable.
Before you can synchronize using the USB cable, you must first install Microsoft® ActiveSync on your computer. ActiveSync is a synchronization program that allows you to:
- Synchronize your e-mail, calendar, tasks, contacts, notes, and Internet Explorer Favorites between your device and your computer.
- Copy files between your device and your computer.
- Install applications on your device.
- Back up and restore device information.

Installing Microsoft Outlook
NOTE: To synchronize your calendar, tasks, contacts, and e-mail with your device, you must have Microsoft Outlook 98 or later installed on your computer. Microsoft® Outlook Express is not supported.
To install Microsoft Outlook, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Insert the included CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer. |
| 2. | Follow the instructions to install Microsoft Outlook. |
Installing Microsoft ActiveSync
NOTE: The CD that comes with your device contains the Microsoft ActiveSync software.
To install Microsoft ActiveSync, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Insert the included CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer. |
| 2. | Follow the instructions to install Microsoft ActiveSync. |
NOTE: To synchronize your calendar, tasks, contacts, and e-mail with your Pocket PC, you must have Microsoft Outlook 98 or later installed on your computer. Microsoft® Outlook Express is not supported. For more information, go to Installing Microsoft Outlook.
Connecting the phone to the computer
To connect the phone to the computer, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Plug the USB cable into the sync connector port on the bottom of your phone. |
| 2. | Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer. |
| 3. | Follow the ActiveSync instructions on your computer to establish a connection between your phone and your computer. |
Copying files between the phone and the computer using the USB cable
NOTE: Backing up a file on your computer creates two separate versions of that file. Changes made to one file will not be reflected in the other.
To copy files between the phone and the computer, using the USB cable, perform the following steps:
| 1. | Plug the USB cable into the sync connector port on the bottom of your phone. |
| 2. | Plug the other end into a USB port on your computer. You will receive an audio alert when a connection is established. |
| 3. | On your computer, in ActiveSync, click Explore. The Mobile Phone folder opens. |
| 4. | Perform one of the following actions: |
- To copy a file to a location on your phone, right-click the file and click Copy. Within the Mobile Phone folder, right-click the folder you want to move it to and click Paste.
- To copy a file to your personal computer, right-click the file and click Copy. Right-click the destination folder on your personal computer and click Paste.
