Choosing a Text Mode (Samsung t209)
Your phone supports the following modes for entering text:
- T9® predictive text mode allows you to enter words with only one keystroke per letter, and the handset will interpret what word you want. For example, to enter the, press 8, 4, 3.
- ABC mode allows you to enter letters by pressing the key labeled with the letter you want until the correct letter displays. For example, if you want to enter a, press the 2 key once. If you want to enter b, press the 2 key twice.
- Number mode allows you to enter numbers.
- Symbol mode allows you to enter symbols.

Choosing a text entry mode
- When available, text entry icons will appear above the Right Soft
key. Press the Right Soft
key, and then select the desired text mode from the menu. - To switch between T9 predictive text mode and Number mode, press and hold the Pound (#) key.
- To switch between all caps, initial caps, and all lowercase, press the Star (*) key.

ABC mode
ABC mode is a manual text mode that allows you to enter letters by pressing the key labeled with the letter you want until the correct letter displays.
- To add a space, press the Pound (#) key.
- To change between upper and lowercase letters, press the Star (*) key.
- To insert a number, press and hold the desired number key.
- To insert periods (.), hyphens (-), commas (,), and the at (@) symbol, press the 1 key until you see the desired symbol.
- To insert other symbols, press and hold the Star (*) key, scroll to the desired symbol, and then select OK.
- To move the cursor left or right, use the Navigation
keys. - To delete characters, press the Cancel
key. - To delete all characters, press and hold the Cancel
key.
T9 predictive text mode
T9 predictive text mode allows you to enter words with only one keystroke per letter. Using a built-in dictionary, the phone interprets what word you want based on which keys you press. The predictive text software analyzes the keystroke combination and displays the most commonly associated word.
- Enter the word by pressing the key once for each letter. For example, to enter the, press 8, 4, 3.
- If the phone displays the correct word, press the Pound (#) key, and then enter the next word.
- If the phone displays an incorrect word, press the 0 key until you see the correct word.
- If the word does not appear in the list, press the Right Soft
key to switch to ABC mode, and then enter the word. - To switch between upper and lowercase letters, press the Star (*) key.
TIPS
- To insert a plus (+) sign when entering a phone number, press and hold the 0 key.
- To insert a plus (+) when entering text, press and hold the Star (*) key to open the Symbol menu, press the number key associated with the plus (+) sign, and then select OK.
- To insert the at (@) symbol when entering text or an e-mail address, press and hold the Star (*) key to open the Symbol menu, press the number key associated with the at (@) symbol, and then select OK.
- To insert a period (.) when entering text or a Web address, press the 1 key repeatedly until the period displays, or press and hold the Star (*) key, and then select the period from the list.
- To insert a dash (-) when entering text or a Web address, press the 1 key repeatedly until the dash displays, or press and hold the Star (*) key, and then select the dash from the list.
