Connecting to T-Mobile HotSpot (Sony Ericsson GC79)
NOTE: T-Mobile HotSpot uses high-speed carrier class Wi-Fi network to give you unlimited wireless access at convenient locations in the US and in Europe. Visit T-Mobile HotSpot for a complete list of HotSpot locations.
To create a connection to T-Mobile Hotspot, follow the steps described in this section. Once you have created the connection, you will be automatically connected to T-Mobile HotSpot the next time you insert the GC79 card into your laptop. Make sure that you are at a T-Mobile HotSpot location and that you have signed up for T-Mobile HotSpot. Visit T-Mobile HotSpot for a complete list of HotSpot locations.
To connect to a T-Mobile HotSpot, perform the following steps:
1. Insert your Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card into your GC79 card.
NOTE: You can connect to T-Mobile HotSpot without inserting the SIM card in your GC79 card. Please note that without the SIM card, you cannot launch the GC79 Manager.

If you do not have your SIM card in the GC79 and you insert the card into your laptop, you will see an error message stating, No SIM installed. Application will exit. Ignore this error message and right-click the icon located on the Status bar (bottom right side of your screen) and select Open utility to open the Wireless Configuration Utility dialog box. Follow Steps 4 – 10 to connect.
2. Insert your GC79 card into your laptop.
3. To open the dialog box with the Wireless Networks tab displayed, right-click the icon located on the Status bar (bottom right side of your screen) and select Open utility.
4. At the Wireless Networks tab, click Add... under the Preferred networks box. The Wireless Network Properties dialog box opens.
5. At the Wireless Network Properties dialog box, in the Network name (SSID): text box, type tmobile.
6. Make sure that the following check boxes are cleared:
  • Data encryption (WEP enabled)
  • Network Authentication (Shared mode)
  • This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network; wireless access points are not used.
7. To go back to the Wireless Configuration Utility dialog box, click OK.
8. At the Wireless Configuration Utility dialog box, click Refresh to activate the network connection. You should see tmobile listed in the Available networks text box.
9. To exit out of the Wireless Configuration Utility dialog box, click OK.
10. Launch your browser and log in using your user name and password.
NOTE: Your HotSpot user name and password are given to you at time of service activation. Your default user name is your 10-digit T-Mobile number and the default password is the last four digits of your Social Security number. We recommend that you change your password when you log into your account for the first time.
