Where does T-Mobile offer 3G service?
Today, we offer 3G service in select markets. T-Mobile USA is planning to launch additional 3G markets throughout the year. You can stay up-to-date on our progress and also check for T-Mobile coverage in your area using our Personal Coverage Check.
What is the status of the 3G rollout?
T-Mobile USA started the launch of 3G in New York City in May, 2008. T-Mobile plans to continue the rollout of its 3G network across major metropolitan markets through the year.
When will 3G launch in my area?
Additional markets will launch as they are tuned for optimal performance. We are unable to provide specific dates or information specific to the market launches as there are many factors that influence market-readiness.
When T-Mobile launches 3G in a market, will it cover the entire market?
The 3G network will initially cover a smaller urban core, where we have the majority of wireless traffic. These footprints will expand over time. Typically, in rural areas, you will have GSM/EDGE/GPRS only.
What will I notice when on a 3G network?
Using one of today’s 3G-capable devices in a 3G market, you will experience faster browsing response and content downloads.
What is the average speed of your high speed network?
The service will initially boost wireless Web speeds to a range of 200 to 300 kbps. On HSDPA devices, we will see an average data rate of 600 kbps with a peak of 1 mbps.
What frequency does your 3G network support?
Our 3G network supports both the 1700MHz and 2100MHz frequencies.
Can I use T-Mobile 3G devices on another carrier’s 3G networks?
You will not be able to roam with your T-Mobile 3G device on another carrier's 3G network. T-Mobile devices use the 1700Mhz/2100Mhz frequency band (for 3G) and it is specific to T-Mobile. You can however roam on another carrier's 1900Mhz frequency band using GSM. Likewise, another carrier’s 3G devices will not be able to roam on our 3G network.
Have you done anything to improve the experience on EDGE?
Making sure you have a good experience, whether on EDGE or 3G continues to be a priority for us.
