BlackBerry® DST patch questions

I downloaded the patch already, do I need to do it again?
No, once the patch is installed it will apply the appropriate Daylight Saving Time changes to your device for all future daylight saving time change events. If the patch is uninstalled, it must be reapplied.
Are there handheld software versions with the DST patch already installed?
Yes, there are DST compliant versions of software available for the BlackBerry 7100™, BlackBerry 7105™, BlackBerry 7290™, BlackBerry 8100™, and BlackBerry 8700™ handhelds. These handheld software versions are available for download at www.t-mobile.com/bbupgrade.

BlackBerry® handheld clock

How will DST changes affect the BlackBerry® handheld clock? Will this be an issue after the update has been applied?
Impacted BlackBerry® handhelds in the affected time zones will display the time one hour behind within the affected periods because the clock will not adjust for the new DST rules. If the update is applied before the affected periods, the BlackBerry® handheld will automatically adjust for the new DST rules.

Is there a way to adjust the clock if the update is not installed before the affected periods?
Yes, BlackBerry® handheld users can change the time on the BlackBerry® handheld manually. At the start of each affected period, adjust the clock forward by one hour. At the end of each affected period, adjust the clock one hour back.

BlackBerry® handheld calendar

Will appointments on the BlackBerry® handheld calendar be affected?
Yes, appointments with a start date falling within any affected periods may be displayed incorrectly.

Which of my appointments may be affected?
The affected appointments (that may be displayed incorrectly) are any single or recurring appointments that start within the affected periods.

Could a recurring appointment beginning last year during the affected periods (using the old DST rules) be displayed incorrectly?
Yes, recurring appointments with a start date falling within any affected periods (including affected periods of the previous year) may be displayed incorrectly. All instances of this appointment may be displayed incorrectly throughout the entire year.
For example, an appointment starting October 30, 2006 and recurring through 2007 will appear one hour ahead for every instance of that appointment throughout the year, not just during affected periods.
NOTE: This may also be a problem after the DST 2007 upgrade is installed on the BlackBerry® handheld.

What happens when my BlackBerry® handheld synchronizes the calendar with my e-mail client?
Appointments and reminders for these appointments may be displayed incorrectly on the BlackBerry® handheld if the appointments occur within the affected periods.

What if my BlackBerry® handheld synchronizes with my computer calendar through BlackBerry® Desktop Manager?
Appointments and reminders for these appointments may be displayed incorrectly on the BlackBerry® handheld if the appointments occur within the affected periods.

What is the potential impact on calendar appointments if the DST upgrades are not applied?
In addition to the display time on the BlackBerry® handheld not transitioning correctly when the new DST start and ends dates occur, there is an impact to the calendar features on the BlackBerry® handheld.
The way a calendar appointment is affected depends on whether it was created using an old DST table (no patch applied) with historical DST information or using a new DST table (after patch is applied) with the updated 2007 DST information.
The table below shows what may occur to calendar appointments and reminders for those appointments during the affected period if you do not upgrade all components in your system.

After I update my BlackBerry® handheld, will all of my appointments be displayed correctly if they start within the affected periods?
No, appointments created using the old time zone rules on BlackBerry® handhelds or computers that have not been updated will appear one hour behind in the BlackBerry® calendar. Also, appointments starting within the affected periods that were created on the BlackBerry® handheld before the update was applied will appear one hour behind in the BlackBerry® calendar. Appointments created using the new time zone rules on updated computers and BlackBerry® handhelds will be displayed correctly on the updated BlackBerry® handheld.

Is there a way to make all appointments appear correctly on my BlackBerry® handheld?
Yes, BlackBerry® handheld users can manually change the times of the appointments in the BlackBerry® handheld calendar to reflect the correct time by recreating the appointments after the update has been installed.

Will my appointments that do not start during the affected periods be displayed correctly?

Is there a way to make all appointments appear correctly on my BlackBerry® device?

Other questions

How can I tell if the update is installed correctly?
In the BlackBerry® handheld Options, select 2007 DST Patch. This will identify whether the update installed successfully or if additional steps are required to complete the download.

Must the DST update be reapplied from the BlackBerry® handheld if I reapply the BlackBerry® Handheld Software? No it should not be required. If the BlackBerry® handheld Software is reloaded using Desktop Software v3.6 or higher the patch manager will be preserved and will automatically re-apply the appropriate patch. Users should confirm this by checking Options - 2007 DST Patch after they reload their Device Software and if this is not present stating the patch is applied then the DST update must be reapplied to the BlackBerry® device.

Can I install the updates after DST begins?
To avoid problems with times being incorrectly displayed on the BlackBerry® handheld calendar and clock, the software upgrades should be applied as soon as possible prior to 2:00 a.m. on March 11, 2007. The upgrades may be applied after this date, but there may be problems with appointments created before the update is applied.

What if I cannot or do not update my BlackBerry® handheld? Is there anything I can do to fix the problems on my BlackBerry® handheld?
The updates that are provided are not required. However, the clock and the BlackBerry® handheld calendar may be incorrect by one hour. This can be adjusted manually on the BlackBerry® handheld.
