Connecting to a personal e-mail account

If you intend to use your handheld to access personal e-mail or e-mail through your Internet Service Provider (ISP), then the BlackBerry Internet Service is the option for you. With the BlackBerry Internet Service, you create a new e-mail account, and then integrate the new account with your existing e-mail account(s), such as your AOL® e-mail account. Messages from ALL your accounts are forwarded to your handheld (all messages are stored in the Messages folder on your handheld).
To connect to a personal e-mail account, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to Set up Internet and press the trackball.

3. Scroll to Add an e-mail account and press the trackball.
4. Select the correct time zone and then accept the Terms and Conditions.

NOTE: Depending on the e-mail account that you add, you may be prompted to select an account type. Depending on the account type, you may be prompted for the following information:
  • E-mail server: Type the e-mail server address for the ISP (for example, mail.ispname.com). Contact your ISP if need more help.
  • Username: Username of the account.
  • Outlook Web Access URL: Type the Web address for your Microsoft® Outlook account.
  • Account Name: Type the mailbox name for your Microsoft Outlook account.
  • Use SSL: If supported by your ISP, enable the Secure Sockets Layer encryption for retrieving messages.
5. Type the E-mail address and Password for your personal account. At Confirm Password, type the password.
6. Scroll to Next and click the trackball. A confirmation screen opens.

Creating a new e-mail account

You can create a new BlackBerry e-mail account (username@tmo.blackberry.net), which you can use to integrate with your personal e-mail account(s).
To create a new BlackBerry Internet E-mail account, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to Setup Internet and click the trackball.

3. At the Username and Password screen, scroll down to Create a BlackBerry e-mail address and click the trackball.

4. Type the desired Username. This is what will appear before the at (@) symbol in your e-mail address.
5. Scroll to Next and click the trackball.

Configuring BlackBerry Internet E-mail

You can manage settings and options of the e-mail accounts that you have configured directly from your handheld or from a computer.

Using a computer to configure e-mail

The following requirements must be met to log in and manage account options using the computer:
  • Internet Browser
    Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 6.0 or later, Mozilla® Firefox™ version 1.0, Opera version 8.0, or Safari™ version 1.2
  • Operating System
    Windows® 2000, XP, or Mac OS® 9.0 or 10.0
To use a computer to configure e-mail, perform the following steps:
1. Go to My T-Mobile and log in. For more information, go to How do I log in to My T-Mobile?
2. Click BlackBerry Internet E-mail.

Using your handheld to configure e-mail

To use your handheld to configure e-mail, perform the following steps:
1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to Setup Internet and click the trackball.

Synchronizing PIM data

The changes that you make to your PIM data on your computer are synchronized with your handheld, and vice-versa. PIM data includes calendar, address book, contacts, tasks, and memos.
You can synchronize your PIN data wirelessly. You can also connect your handheld to your computer using a USB cable, and then synchronize PIM data using the BlackBerry® Desktop Software. For information on installing the BlackBerry Desktop Software, go to Installing the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

Wireless synchronization of calendar entries, tasks, memos, and contacts is supported.
You can enable wireless synchronization of these PIM items using the options within each program on the handheld.
You do not need to connect your handheld to your computer to synchronize PIM data or to enable PIM synchronization.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) version 2.1 or later
Wireless synchronization of calendar entries is supported.
You can enable wireless synchronization of calendar entries using the Intellisync program in the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
You need to connect your handheld to your computer once to enable wireless calendar synchronization and every time that you want to synchronize contacts, tasks, and memos.
BlackBerry Internet E-mail or BlackBerry Desktop Redirector
Wireless synchronization of PIM data is not supported.
You need to connect your handheld to your computer every time that you want to synchronize calendar entries, contacts, tasks, and memos.

Installing the BlackBerry Desktop Software

NOTE: The following requirements must be met to install the BlackBerry Desktop Software:
  • Intel®-compatible 486 or higher computer that is compliant with USB 1.1 or later
  • USB port
  • CD-ROM drive
  • Microsoft® Windows® 98, ME, 2000, or XP
NOTE: If you use Windows 98 (not Windows 98 Second Edition), you must download an update from www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/dcom1_3.asp for the USB driver to operate correctly.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT connect your handheld to your computer before or during the installation of the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer. You can connect your handheld to your computer AFTER you have finished the installation.
To install the BlackBerry Desktop Software, perform the following steps:
1. Insert the BlackBerry Desktop Software installation CD into your CD drive. The software installs the InstallShield® wizard and the Welcome to the BlackBerry Desktop Software dialog box opens. Click Next.

2. From the Select the country or region in which you are currently located drop-down list, select your country, and then click Next.

3. Click to select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next.

4. From Customer Information, type your User Name and Organization, and then click Next.

5. Click Next.
NOTE: To select a different destination folder, click Change.

6. From Setup Type, click to select Typical or Custom, and then click Next.

7. From Integration Options, click to select BlackBerry Internet Service and then click Next.

8. From Shortcut Installation Options, click to select the desired option(s) and then click Next.

9. Click Install to begin the installation. A progress box appears.

10. Click Finish.

11. Click OK to continue.

12. Connect your handheld to the computer using the USB cable.
NOTE: The BlackBerry Desktop Software opens automatically.

13. A dialog box pops up. Click OK.

15. Select Connection Settings.

16. From the Connection drop-down menu, select USB-PIN. This is the unique number for your handheld. Click Detect.

17. Double-click Synchronize.

18. Click to select Reconcile messages, Synchronize organizer data, and Update device’s date and time.
19. Click Synchronize Now.

NOTE: To open the BlackBerry Desktop Software, double-click the shortcut icon on your desktop OR from the taskbar, select Start, select Programs, select BlackBerry, and then select Desktop Manager.
