Performing basic troubleshooting

To perform basic troubleshooting, perform the following steps:
1. Verify that the radio is turned on.
NOTE: When the radio is turned on, the Antenna icon and the current coverage appear in the upper right corner of the screen. If the word OFF appears in the upper right corner of the screen, activate the radio by using the Turn Wireless On icon.
2. If possible, verify that other T-Mobile BlackBerry® handhelds using the same network service in the same area are receiving a good signal.
3. Remove the battery and the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card.
4. After several seconds, re-insert the SIM card and the battery.
5. Power up the BlackBerry®.
NOTE: If successful, uppercase GPRS appears.
6. Try to send and/or receive e-mail.

Upgrading handheld software


Determining the software version of the handheld

To determine the software version of the handheld, perform the following steps:
1. From the Home screen, select Options.
NOTE: If you are using the BlackBerry 7100t™ and the BlackBerry 7105t™, from the Home screen, select Tools, and then select Settings.
2. Select Applications.
3. Highlight any BlackBerry® application, click the trackwheel, and then select Modules from the pop-up menu.
NOTE: The software version will be listed beside each entry on the Modules screen.

Determining if a newer version is available

NOTE: Handheld software updates are located at the following T-Mobile address: www.t-mobile.com/bbupgrade.
Click Do I need this software? to compare your handheld software version with the latest released version.

Checking if PIN to PIN messaging is working

To check if PIN to PIN messaging is working, perform the following steps:
1. From the Home screen, select Messages.
2. Click the trackwheel, and then select Compose PIN from the pop-up menu.
3. Select a contact whose PIN you have stored previously, or type your own PIN using the [Use Once] option.
NOTE: To locate your own BlackBerry® PIN number, from the Home screen, select Options, and then select Status.
4. Type Test in the Subject field, and then send the message.
NOTE: When the message is sent, a checkmark appears beside the message. When delivered, a D appears above the checkmark. If a red X appears beside the message, the sending has failed.
