BlackBerry Internet E-mail Management and Troubleshooting
This article is designed to help you troubleshoot common BlackBerry Internet E-mail issues. If you are unable to send and receive e-mail with your BlackBerry®, the following information and troubleshooting steps may help resolve the issue.

What is a PIN?

PIN is the abbreviation for Personal Identification Number. Each handheld has a unique PIN, like every telephone line has a unique telephone number. Each PIN has eight digits.
NOTE: To locate your PIN, click Options, and then click Status. Your PIN appears. Your PIN is also located in the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector and in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
If you know the PIN on another BlackBerry handheld, you can send messages directly to that PIN rather than to the contact's e-mail address.
NOTE: To send messages directly to a PIN, within Address Book, enter the PIN for the contact, and then click PIN when you compose a message.

What causes an Out of Memory error?

Too many calendar or address book entries can cause an Out of Memory error. It may also be caused by too many third-party applications on your handheld.
NOTE: For more information about resolving Out of Memory errors, refer to the following tips:
  • Keep only essential contacts in your address book.
  • Restrict the information transferred from your desktop to your handheld during synchronization of your address books by configuring the field mapping.

  • Restrict the number of appointments transferred to the calendar on your handheld during synchronization by setting a date range.

    NOTE: For more information about setting date ranges, refer to Intellisync Online Help.

  • Use the Application Loader on the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to remove any unnecessary third-party software from your handheld.

How do I delete data from my handheld?

To delete data from your handheld, select one of the following options:

Removing any part of all of the data from any handheld

To remove any part or all of the data from any handheld, perform the following steps:
1. Connect the handheld to a PC.
2. On the PC, from the desktop, double-click BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
2. Within the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application, double-click Backup and Restore.
3. Click Advanced.
4. Click the databases you want to delete, and then click Clear.

Removing all data on a handheld running v4.0 software

To remove all data on a handheld running v4.0 software, perform the following steps:
NOTE: This procedure will remove all of the data from the handheld.
1. On the handheld, click Options.
2. Click Security.
3. At main menu, press the trackwheel, and then click Wipe Info.

How do I enable a password on my handheld?

To enable a password on your handheld, perform the following steps:
1. At main menu, click Options.
2. Click Security.
3. At Password, click Enable.
4. Enter your password, and then verify your password.
5. Press the trackwheel, and then click Save.
NOTE: When the password is enabled, Security Timeout appears on the display when the handheld is inactive.

How do I extend the battery life on my BlackBerry?

To extend the battery life on your BlackBerry, refer to the following tips:
  • Use Vibrate notification instead of Tone
  • Use the holster
  • Enable the Auto On/Off setting
  • Adjust the Backlight settings

Should I delete the Web Client service book from my BlackBerry handheld? What are these new service books?

Do not delete the Web Client service book from your BlackBerry handheld. It is needed to access e-mail messages that you received before the upgrade on October 2, 2005. Additional service books have been added to your BlackBerry handheld as part of this upgrade. One new service book should be added for each e-mail account that you have in BlackBerry Internet E-mail. Each account is named with the corresponding e-mail address. The Web Client service book will automatically delete from your BlackBerry handheld when it is no longer needed. Do not delete the Desktop service book from your BlackBerry handheld. It is needed for your BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.

I cannot access the BlackBerry Internet E-mail site on my BlackBerry 7100t when I click E-mail Setup or Set up Internet E-mail.

If you cannot access the BlackBerry Internet E-mail site on your BlackBerry 7100t when you click E-mail Setup or Set up Internet E-mail, perform the following steps:
1. At the main menu, click Tools, and then click Settings.
2. At Settings, scroll to and click Service Book.
3. Scroll to and click E-mail set up [BrowserConfig], and then click Delete.
4. Scroll to and click E-mail set up [IPPP], and then click Delete.
5. At Settings, click Host Routing Table.
6. At HRT Editor, press the trackwheel, and then click Register Now.
7. Click Set up Internet E-mail.

How do I control the account I use to send outgoing messages?

To control the account you use to send outgoing messages, perform the following step:
1. From the top of a new message, within Using, click the desired account.
NOTE: If you have a corporate e-mail account on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, Desktop appears within Using.

Does BlackBerry Internet E-mail support IBM Lotus Domino/Notes through iNotes?

Support for IBM Lotus Domino/Notes through iNotes has some restrictions. Access to IBM Lotus Domino/Notes through the iNotes interface is not supported for new accounts. Also, if you need to add a new account to your BlackBerry Internet E-mail to access your IBM Lotus Domino/Notes e-mail, you must use the Mail Connector.

How do I change my signature?

To change your signature, perform the following steps:
NOTE: You can view your signature from your BlackBerry handheld, but you can only edit it from a PC.
1. On a PC, go to the T-Mobile home page.
2. From the My T-Mobile section, within the Mobile number and Password text boxes, enter your mobile number and password. Click LOG IN.
3. Under the Connect and Share section, click Configure e-mail.
4. From the BlackBerry Internet E-mail section, make the desired changes to your signature and save.

When I edit an e-mail account from the PC Web site or from my handheld, what do the E-mail Account and E-mail fields refer to?

When you edit an e-mail account, the E-mail Account field is the name that is used to refer to that account on your handheld. You may use any name to help you keep track of your different accounts. The name is not seen by the recipient. The E-mail field is the reply-to address that you can modify to any e-mail address you wish. When you send a message from that account, any replies are sent to the reply-to address.
