Getting Started: Introduction to BlackBerry® Desktop Software
Before you can connect and synchronize your BlackBerry® handheld, you must install the necessary software to your PC. Your BlackBerry® handheld ships with a software CD containing the BlackBerry Desktop Software. To obtain the latest available software version, you may download the installation package from T-Mobile.com free of charge. The following items will assist you after installation:
BlackBerry Desktop Manager
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is a suite of components designed to help you with the following tasks:
- Add or remove applications on your handheld
- Update your handheld software
- Backup and recover data on your handheld
- Manage synchronization options
The Desktop Manager interface is intuitive and easy to use. It allows access to the following three components:
- Application Loader
- Backup and Restore
- Intellisync

Application Loader
The Application Loader application allows you to perform the following tasks:
- Add or remove BlackBerry® handheld software components
- Update your handheld software
- Install third-party applications
- Wipe all handheld software and data
The Application Loader consists of a Wizard interface that is interactive and easy to use.

Backup and Restore
The Backup and Restore application allows you to perform the following tasks:
- Backup all handheld software and data
- Restore a previously saved backup to your handheld
- Customize the components you wish to backup or restore
- Manage automatic backup settings
The Backup and Restore interface is intuitive and easy to use.

Intellisync
The Intellisync application is a vital component of the Desktop Manager suite. Intellisync allows you to synchronize data between a PC and the BlackBerry® handheld. Intellisync can be configured to perform the following tasks:
- Customize the items you wish to synchronize
- View a log of synchronization events
- Configure synchronization of Personal Information Manager (PIM) data
- Configure third-party add-in components
- Manage startup options
The Intellisync application interface is intuitive and easy to use.

Using Configure PIM, Intellisync allows you to configure synchronization of your address book, calendar, memos, and tasks.
