Over the course of this week, we are rolling out a fancy new paint job for all of our device home pages. We've added large amounts of content (including set after set of how-to procedure documents), and this new design will help us better showcase that content. Here is a contrast of the old and new layouts:
Classic layout
New layout
Our new layout lets us present critical support documentation in the forefront. Additionally, customers can now use the home page to navigate to the type of info they're looking for (like 'Tech Specs' or 'Help & How To') and then go from there. Let's take a look at how the new design works!
Controlling the main widget
Use the buttons in the top, left-hand navigation area to control the main widget on the right. This will flip through "pages" of quick content.
- Welcome has content for getting started and setting up your device
- Tech Specs shows a list of some of the most pertinent featues and offers a link to the full specification sheet
- Help & How To shows a list of "how to" or "common procedure" categories to choose from
Using the How To categories
If you choose the Help & How To option, you will see a selection of commonly used procedure types. Each of these links will take you to a list of all documents specific to this device and filtered by the category you've selected.
- All categories here are appropriately named to the content they show
- The links here will only show content specific to the device you're looking at, so you don't have to worry about finding irrelevant help
- The last link is always a link to show all of the documentation for the platform itself (Android, BlackBerry, Windows or general information)
Jumping to related support
Sometimes what you're looking for can be found elsewhere, and that's where our Related Support selection comes in. If you're looking for information on third-party applications, steps straight from the manufacturer or maybe tips and tricks from other Support Community users you can use these buttons to get around.
- Applications will take you to a space that has information on select smart phone downloads and apps separated by platform (Android, BlackBerry, Windows and Nokia OVI/Symbian)
- Android Develeopment will only show up on Android devices and it takes to you a special section for heavy-duty customization and modification discussions (Note: this is not supported by T-Mobile and is a user-driven area of our Community)
- Customer Discussions will show you all of the conversations and questions being passed around by our Support Community users. If you have a question we haven't covered in our documentation, you can check here to see if anyone else has come across it
- Manufacturer Site will open a new window (or tab, if you're using an up-to-date browser) that will show your device manufacturer's support content off of the T-Mobile Support site
Enhanced search results
Results you get in the search widget will now be separated out to show all the different areas you could find helpful content related to your device.
- Support documentation specific to your device will be in the first section
- Content that could be applicabale to all devices in that platform category will be next (for example, all Android devices)
- More general content that could apply to simply any equipment will be in the third area (things like tracking information and replacing stolen devices can be found here)
- User-generated support discussions, questions and answers are featured at the bottom
- You can click the "Search more..." link in the bottom-right of each section to see more than three results from that area
You will see these updates rolling out to each device throughout the week. We hope this helps getting around and finding helpful content even easier! Again, as always, your feedback has driven the improvements here and we appreciate that!
Many thanks and well wishes from your T-Mobile Support team!
Jonathan, T-Mobile Support Administrator and Designer
